While ‘Plexus’ leads in with a powerful kick drum, an electro bassline quickly fades in. During the breakdown they bring in a really cool melodic piece that fits in just perfectly when it all drops. I don't necessarily think of Monkey Safari as a melodic techno act so when I flipped this on so, needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. ‘Bernstein’ is Monkey Safari’s second release of the year on Hommage, the duo’s own label.[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/200180471" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Sven Frölich and Lars Rühlemann, the German duo better known as Monkey Safari, have been on a tear lately. Until recently they has been known primarily for their daytime party sound. But since they retired their other labels to focus on Hommage last year, it seems that Monkey Safari has been taking their sound in a new, more experimental direction. It’s working. Since the start of 2015 Monkey Safari has collaborated with the likes of Kolsch, Wolf + Lamb, Josh Wink, and Guy Gerber. Their remix of Marc Houle’s ‘Pepper’, out on Minus, is one of my favorite tracks from last year while ‘Walls’, on their own Hommage, peaked at #13 on Beatport’s Top 100. This year promises much of the same as ‘On’, the duo’s first EP of the year, saw massive remixes from heavyweights Paco Osuna and Chloe and ‘Bernstein’ is due for remixes from John Digweed & Nick Muir as well as UNER.Thanks to Dennis for shooting the new EP my way!
