LAMP Weekly Mix #128 feat. Lopezhouse
LAMP Weekly Mix #128 feat. Lopezhouse
I have to say these guys have something really special building right now and their recent feature on Kittball Records and a Tomorrowland lineup announcement is a testament to that. When PZB introduced me to their music a few weeks back during a LAMP #trackoftheday review I had to dig deeper and was very fortunate to get a chance to host them on our #weeklymix series today. Enjoy this mix... Really, it's pretty awesome.MR PUZL: We are big fans of your last mix for Deep or Die. What have you got in store for our listeners in this mix?Lopezhouse: This mix was recorded in Tulum and it carries our characteristic deep and melodic sound, influenced by the powerful jungle energy of this place. The mix was first played live at Residencia Gorila, an amazing artists residence on the Tulum beach, surrounded by our amazing new Tulum family that has supported us during this America tour. Hope you enjoy listening to the mix as much as we all enjoyed it here!MP: Looking back at your discography I came across 'Mesias' released via Sintope Digital. Was this your first release? How did Lopezhouse first start out?LH: While Lopezhouse (David Lopez and Carlos Cruz) already existed for quite some time, it was the release of "Mude Tod" on Dirtybird last October that really consolidated us as a professional duo. Together and separate we had been working on different musical projects, including rock and neo-punk bands, but through Lopezhouse we have really broken through different markets releasing in labels on both sides of the ocean, with exciting more new releases to come!MP: You describe your music as a fusion of Techno, Post Punk and Electronica. Can you elaborate on this? Who are some artists that influence you in each of those genres?LH: Naturally, we have been influenced by the music we like and the DJs that have blown our minds with amazing sets and tracks throughout the years. We use the bass in our live sets much like in the 80's post punk sound like Joy Division or Bauhaus, and we both love German house and techno. It would be an endless list of artists that have inspired us but as Lopezhouse we aim to create a set that has an unique sound but also to always play the music we like and have a great time doing it!.MP: Congrats on releasing 'Murnau' on the Kittball sampler Konspiracy! Tell us a bit about how you made that track and your featured artist Angela.LH: Angela has been our friend, supporter and secret weapon since the beginning. Surprisingly, she is not a professional singer and it has been an honor for us to count with such an exclusive talent as our vocalist for some of our favorite tracks. Similar to "Mude Tod", "Murnau" is our musical vision of what German impressionism was, using dark synth sounds and 80's bass with our personal signature sound.MP: Dirtybird must have a been a really motivating release for your career so far. What other labels would you aspire to put your music on?LH: We couldn't believe and still can't believe that a techno giant like Barclay (Claude VonStroke) selected "Mude Tod" for his label and then played it on his set in Ibiza while we were with him on stage!. It was a very powerful moment. We have great respect for many great labels like Innervisions and Kompakt but we are really involved with our labels, and love what we are doing! We are now working with the Berlin label Exploited Records on two very interesting projects in which we have taken to explore a more indie sound, without leaving behind our deep house. We are really thankful to Jan Simon from Exploited for trusting in us in these important projects!MP: You recently came from playing some shows down in Mexico, most recently Tulum. How was the experience? How does it compare to the club life in Spain?LH: Mexico has been amazing! We started in Mexico City, playing in the emblematic Rodhesia Social Club and then headed to Tulum where we have been engaged on a PR Tour with MOAR Magazine and Residencia Gorila, playing a 10 dates around the super hip Mexican beach town and collaborating with artists and filmmakers from all over the world creating beautiful content to be released soon! We have definitely seen a very live scene in Mexico and specially in Tulum, people here actively engage with the music and the moment, but luckily we have also seen a growth in the electronica scene in Madrid where there is also great people working.MP: Speaking of. I've travelled a bit to Spain and even took my honeymoon there! Where are you both from originally? What were your first experiences with electronic music?LH: We are both Spanish from the same town in La Mancha called Valdepeñas, in the center of the country. Our experience in music comes since we were teenagers, David starting to spin at 16 and Carlos playing around town in rock bands. Since, David has been a resident in Destino and Pacha Ibiza, playing as himself and in several musical projects and Carlos has worked in sound producing and engineering with important national and international TV and film productions.MP: We just saw the news about Tomorrowland. That's massive! Have you ever been before? If you could curate a stage there who would you have play?LH: This year is our first year in Tomorrowland and we are super excited! We think is going to be an amazing festival and are really happy to have our track "Crosses and Angels" on the CD compilation this year! If we could do our own stage, we would want to be surrounded with our label mates and friends from Dirtybird, Plattenbank, Kittball and Exploited, of course! We love you LAMP and thank you for thinking of us! Enjoy the mix! Big hugs from Tulum!!
