Track of the Day: Mikey V - That Beat Inside My Head (Multipass "Latepass" Remix)
Mikey V - That Beat Inside My Head (Multipass "Latepass" Remix)
It's been another exciting weekend and as Labor Day marks the start of a new season we were graced with the release of loads of new music. Drops from the likes of Anjunadeep, Noir, Aus, and in particular Audiophile Deep set the mark for what promises to be an exciting influx of music in the final months of the year. It has been a promising 2015 for the multi-faceted label as they continue to acquire and release a massive amount of quality music. Their Deep channel is only one component of this operation as XXL and Live serve host to an even broader spectrum of electronic based music. Today's track comes from Mikey V's latest single release, 'That Beat Inside My Head' in the form of a remix from Multipass. It was really hard to pick one out of Mikey V's collection for this release, but this particular remix by Multipass stuck out me for a few personal reasons. Firstly, the saxophone sampling is fantastic and you can tell how clean it is when the first breakdown strips everything else down. Secondly, the groove from the original track is given a soulful transformation with nods to early lounge house and hints of Afrobeat rhythms influencing a soothing meditative ambience. The cymbals and crash hits are soft and ride nicely overtop of a round kick and tight snare pattern allowing plenty of head room for other low end frequencies to push through. The piano and saxophone dance playfully with each other throughout the song with a few subtle crossovers that create wonderfully light harmonies. Overall, the track has all the qualities for a relaxing daytime set or providing a cool bit of respite for patrons of the dancefloor during a more energetic club session. The original by the LA based producer delivers a healthy collection of well timed vocal cuts and an awesome analog pad layer that gives it a more classic house touch.Gene Farris' rework takes deeper, bass-centric approach with a tight groove that bounces its way throughout the entire song picking up and dropping off an awesome collection of percussive layers and vocal cuts.Eelrack's tech house infused remix delivers a fat bass line with a crisp snare and beat riddled with a complex array of environmental sounds and punchy pads.I had to do a bit of asking around regarding Multipass, and luckily I got in touch with one of the Audiophile label managers who gave me some proper insight. Multipass is a new collaboration between Audiophile A&R Scottie "Red Eye" Canfield and Samma Lone. Lone aka Steven Incrocci or Lil'Steven has been spinning records and releasing tracks dating back to the early 90s with labels such as Skint and King Street Sounds eventually starting his own label Skeet Traxx. Working recently with the likes of Eats Everything, Manjane and more Lone has seen continued success over the course of his carrier and see no signs of slowing down with this new project. Canfield aka DJ Red Eye it's a multi-talented companion in this endeavor with a hot residency at one of Dallas' premiere clubs, It'll Do and the exciting role at Audiophile uncovering new music and trend setting producers. The duo have future releases coming out on Defected & Doc Link's 'Liberate' imprint, so we highly anticipate more incredible tunes to come!Check out their latest track 'Aphreme' out on September 30th via Doc Link's label LiberateAlso be sure to dive deep into Mike V's catalog, we promise it's worth it!Now go forth an conquer the rest of your Labor Day and look out for my Guest Mix dropping tomorrow morning.Enjoy,MR PUZL
