Track of the Day: xxxy - Over Peover
It's been a short week thanks to an amazing and much needed holiday weekend, and it means that we have even fewer days left until myself and Jeff Devoe get to share a stage with 2 producers that we really admire here at LAMP, Urulu and xxxy. The later is the focus of today's #trackoftheday review with 'Over Peover' from his latest EP release on Rinse.
xxxy - Over Peover
The track opens up with a clean round kick and shaker combo establishing lively tempo while an airy drawn out chord floats over top. The lead synth begins to filter in and builds nicely as its resonance is pushed open and the notes begin to sustain into a beautiful delayed effect. The core bass drone is a subtle touch that grounds the low end frequencies while adding character to the driving kick pattern. What makes this particular track so appealing is that the main chord progressions do not stray to far from the original concept but instead a clever use of an array of alternating synths allow for one pattern to blend into the next. Stretches of ambient effects fill in the headroom nicely especially when the drum layers and bass line get pulled out during a few breakdowns. For 6 minute and change song, the journey feels effortless and in an isolated listening session allow for calm and enlightening introspection. This is one of xxxy's tracks I will definitely be listening out for on Saturday. This EP is part of a trilogy of albums that the producer embarked on early on this year with the Rinse label. '18 Hours' is a wonderfully diverse curation of music ranging from the deep undulating synths of the self-titled track to the acid analog sounds of 'Tool', while 'Clay Pitch' delves deeper into an electronica infused tech house environment.

Last Dance boasts visits some brighter moods and much the same as the previous EP, each track carries its own identity that further reinforces xxxy's knack for curating truly unique work.

xxxy aka Rupert Taylor has had an exciting 2015 and continued to build on his success over the past few years with a host of releases that traverse a vast spectrum of house music. With over a decade's worth of experience, the Mancunian born Berlin based producer saw the fruits of his labor finally payoff in 2010 with 'Ordinary Things' and has continued to out do himself with every new track. Under an older moniker 'Forensix' Taylor first began to understand the pressures of early success and took a hiatus to focus on technique and quality before returning as xxxy. Red Bull Music Academy quickly took notice of Taylor's work and invited him to Madrid to be part of their 60 person field of collaborative musicians and he would eventually be named a top 5 DJs in the world to see perform. As his Rinse EP trilogy concludes the outlook is promising and the possibilities endless for xxxy and we anxiously await what's he has in store next.If you want some insight in to just how talented xxxy is then watch this Against The Clock and see him create a tune in under 10 minutes:If you're in town grab a ticket to our show and watch some incredible producers take the stage for a long night of amazing electronic music in Downtown LA.You can listen to this and other tracks from my latest #weeklymix below:Enjoy,MR PUZL
