Track of the Day: KlangKuenstler - Golden
As many of you have come to realize I am fairly well versed in many genres of electronic music from house, tech house, trance, electro, nu disco, trap, drum & bass you name it. Some I know better than others and I try to learn as much and consume as much new music as I possibly can. It's like when you go to a buffet and you have to try everything just to see what it tastes like. There is one section of the buffet I know really well though and am always piling it on and that's Techno. A group of people who serve up some especially great techno is Great Stuff Records. Recently they put out a new compilation called Mono:Tone #1. It includes some heavy hitters from some of the best producers in the genre; Olivier Giacomotto, Mario Ochoa, Dave Seaman, Julio Navas, Bhudakid and many others. KlangKuenstler is another who's name appears on the compilation and the focus of our track of the day. 'Golden' is originally part of a 2 track EP that escaped me when it first came out around the middle of last year. Luckily it found its way into my library and my heart through this compilation. Of all of the comments I have received from my mix this week many of them have stemmed from this track. The classic groove gets the track going but what really gets it going is the ridiculously massive and full bass line that pushes its way into the fray along with a nasty but beautiful saw tooth synth that comes in about 1:35 into the track. KlangKuenstler gets super funky and dark with the synth during the break and through out the entire song. The vinyl noise in the background gives the sensation of a warm burning fire off in the background at a renegade desert party under the stars. This one will definitely be finding its way into my desert/late night techno essentials crate for sure.I'm disappointed in my self for having taken this long to discover this amazing talent. He is relatively young but the moves he has made so far in his career have been such that I am surprised I am just discovering him. With several releases along with representation from the Stil Vor Talent group (founded by one of my favorite musical acts Oliver Kolteski in Germany back in 2006) he has made his mark and gathered an pretty massive following pretty quickly. His first track he ever made and released got over 3 million views on YouTube. People really like his deep melodic style and ability to connect with his audience. Appearing sometimes as a DJ, KlangKuenstler at its heart is a live act and is meant to be experienced that way. Looking at his schedule most of his gigs are happening in and around Germany although he did just depart for Singapore. Hopefully soon this talented musician will make his way to LA. He just release another new EP for Smiley Fingers which is a fun take on an old Run DMC track that I love so make sure to check that out as well. You can also check out today's track of the day in my latest mix that I put together for LAMP this week.
