Track of the Day: Andrea Doria - Yaoo

#FlashbackFriday welcomes #ThrowbackThursay's edition of #WaybackWednesday today here at LAMP. A certain new Star Wars flick is opening worldwide today, although most of us wont get to see it till Friday. So I decided to reach into my archives and have a little fun today with a track that has always held a special place in my heart. Not only for its relentless driving pound you into oblivion groove but also for some choice audio samples Andrea Doria chose to use in this track from almost ten years ago, 'Yaoo'. It's no secret my favorite movies of all time are the original trilogy of Star Wars. Coming out 30 years after the movie which it samples, the track is not for the faint of heart. It kicks off with a bit of an industrial feel to it and eventually transforms into a rather aggressive and crunchy tone as the track really helps the listener get the feeling of being in Luke's X-Wing fighter as he traverses through the canyons of the Death Star under heavy fire of Darth Vader, lead synths and bass lines, with R2-D2 frantically chiming in his displeasure of the situation. I almost expect to hear the John Williams soundtrack begin to play at the end of the song signifying the destruction of the Death Star. I recently tried playing this song while watching the final Death Star battle in Star Wars. While it doesn't sync perfectly it is definitely a fun way to get you pumped up before you go see The Force Awakens. Try it for yourself and see. I started it right at the point where Tarkin says "Evacuate? In our moment of Triumph". Ok geek rant finished.Andrea Doria is a named etched in history. Infamously the name of unfortunate Italian passenger liner that sank back in 1956. On a recent trip to Croatia via Venice Italy I came across a passenger fairy named the Andrea Doria as well. Which actually prompted me to look it up in the first place (I thought maybe the dj owned it). Hopefully it stays afloat this time. The other famous Andrea Doria is also acclaimed an Italian producer and DJ. Now I'm not so sure if it's his real name or if he actually took it from history. Regardless he has etched his name in electronic music history with several classic tracks including the one above Bucci Bag which crushed dance floors for the better part of the year in 2003. Doria was highly sought after for his productions skills working with legendary labels like Yoshitoshi and his tracks popping up regularly on Pete Tongs Essential Selection. Doria has also worked quite closely with another of my favorites Dino Lenny throughout his career. A career that has also seen him work with the likes of Thomas Schumacher, Tommie Sunshine, Tiesto, INXS, and the Wu Tang Clan on a movie soundtrack. He has been fairly quiet of late but appears to be getting ready to make a comeback. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one. For now enjoy a few other tracks he has either produced or collaborated on.We also have a brand new mix up this week from Mr. Puzl so make sure to head over to our channel and give that a listen as well.
