Track of the Day: Agents Of Time - Magma
Rounding out our reviews for the week is another one Mr. Puzl and I dug out of the crates during our jam session the other night. It was late night after the bars so we were feeling the techno vibes. One of my favorite producers over the past couple of years has been Maceo Plex and his opinion on music is something I value. So when I came across this track recently released by his label Ellum I knew we would have a gem on our hands. Plus I am a geology nerd so words like Magma and Obsidian get me excited. Produced by Italian trio Agents Of Time 'Magma' is one of two absolutely remarkable tracks on the 'Magma' EP. This is an incredibly complex and well produced track. Taking on a sort of progressive tone as each piece of the track is slowly introduced, building the track bit by bit until about 2:40 into the track when the massive sawtooth bass kicks you in the teeth and the track into overdrive. As the bass line rumbles on in the background an entrancing lead synth slowly picks its way through taking over and adding even more pace to a track that is already pumping away at breakneck speed. Everything about this track is beautifully put together and arranged. As is the second track on the EP, Obsidian. This trio is relatively new with the group having gotten together in 2013, and their first release coming in 2014. Quickly attracting attention and support from the likes of Tale of Us, Dixon, Tiga, Agoria, John Digweed and many more. 2015 was a pretty good year for the guys as they saw releases on Lost & Found, the release of their Emperor EP, and a remix of WhoMadeWho's 'Traces' for Click records, as well as one for the Stephen Bodzin 'Powers of Ten' remixes. With this recent release on Maceo PLex's Ellum Records in addition to some touring of India and south east Asia, upcoming stints in France, Germany, Barcelona and festival season on the way, it is safe to say we will be hearing much more from this group. You can hear more of their music on SoundCloud and hopefully they will be in LA soon so we can catch them live. Also make sure to throw on our guest mix this week from Boots & Pants if you haven't yet. It's a great set of tracks mixed perfectly to get you pumped up for a the weekend!
