Track of the Day: Tim Engelhardt - Azimute
It was almost two years ago to the day that we featured our last Poker Flat title as our Track of the Day. MR PUZL had picked out 'Call Me' from Mihai Popoviciu. It is a label that we probably don't talk about enough. Many of the artists we feature here have also produced on this long standing label that goes back to 1998. I know if I went into my vinyl collection I could find several cuts from Poker Flat from the early 2000's when I was buying vinyl regularly. Today we are going with their latest release from Tim Engelhardt. 'Your Words Keep Me Safe' is basically the 3rd release by Engelhardt for Poker Flat following following up last years 'Enigmatism' and 'Everything Is All You Have' from earlier in 2015. His latest is comprised of 4 new tracks including 'Azimute' our Track of the Day. As he is adept at doing with his productions Engelhardt really takes the listener on fantastic journey. A deep flowing bass lines starts things off as the groove builds and more instruments jump into the mix. A top line synth slowly introduces itself that throughout the course of the track modulates and is played with to make quick short stabbing notes, drawing out to long sweeping notes that echo off into what feels like a surrounding jungle of percussive instruments and exotic bird calls. It is not hard to quickly imagine yourself cruising through the jungle with awesome waterfalls and the constant drone of insects buzzing in the air as birds dart through the trees making their calls out to all their homies.Engelhardt has got quite an impressive resume when it comes to production. The German native has been turning out tunes left and right since around 2011. One of his first releases came in the form of a remix for 'Jule' by Solee, on one of my favorite labels Parquet. He has gone on since then to produce quite a few incredible tracks for Parquet including the one above Marilyn which is one of my personal favorites. He has been on a tear these last couple of years and really made his name well known in the electronic music world. Having been under the wing of the legendary Robert Babicz and getting the support from guys like Pete Tong and Steve Bug is surely a confidence builder and career booster. I'm looking at how old he was when he put out his first album with poker flat and it says he was 17. If I am doing my math correctly that would that would make him no older than 19. With skills like that at such an age thinking about where the future of music is headed gets very exciting. Enjoy more of his productions below and keep an eye on where this talented young producer is headed. This week we helped launch a new project Jewel Tones. Instead of a weekly mix we are featuring a audio and visual production featuring the new music that will be forthcoming from him on Puzl Records. This week's mix is the audio from his forthcoming PUZL Records release which can be seen in the form of a video shot by Jacob on the Jewel Tones' YouTube channel. His creative vision for the project is being presented in a variety of formats and but only a small part of what's in store.Enjoy and stay tuned for the full release!
