Track of the Day: Ken Ishii - Twitched (Ken Ishii 2016 Remix)
The Olympics start today and thinking back on Opening ceremonies of the past such as Tiesto's performance during the Greece opening ceremonies. Rick Smith of Underworld was instrumental in composing music for the 2012 Olympic Games in London with music from Chemical Brothers and Prodigy also featured. Our track of the day today comes from a Japanese techno producing legend who was also responsible for the music composition of the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Ken Ishii over the last month has been releasing a package of remixes for a track he put out a couple years back 'Twitched'. A bouncy groove is chopped and cut up by a jumbled arpeggio of staccato notes. It has a very industrial tech feel to it but in a sort of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory kind of way. I really enjoy the twang to each of the notes as they pick their way through the mix. There have been three separate releases each with about 4 or 5 renditions from other artists. It has been remixed by Tom Hades, Alberto Ruiz and many others. Personally I enjoy Ishii's own remix.Ken Ishii in the techno scene is a legend and in his home country of Japan he is the man. Constantly in demand for his unmatched producer talents. Having been releasing music as far back as the early 90's his talent has taken him to the far reaches of the earth to share his craft. His music has been used in video games, he runs his own label R & S which he has also been releasing on since 1992. He even won an MTV Europe award for best dance video in 1997. It is a treat to get some "new" music and remixes from Mr. Ishii. Aside from the EP down below since this is his only other release of the year that I am aware of. If you like what you're hearing makesure to look further into Ishii's catalog it goes back over 30 years!
