Track of the Day: Josh Wink - Talking To You - Carl Cox Remix

In two days I will be headed to another Burning Man. I am really excited to have the opportunity to play music out on the playa for a few different camps this year. It will give me the opportunity to play different types and styles of music throughout the week. I was going through my library of recent music pick ups and came across this new one from Intec Digital, the reborn legendary label headed up by Carl Cox. Mr. Cox along with Joh Rundell recently got together with a true god in this business Josh Wink to remix his track 'Talking To You'. Originally put out on Winks Ovum back in 2014, he put out a driving Acid Techno groove that is not for the weary. The dude is a fricking beast. Today we are going to talk about another true god in this business, Carl Cox. A veteran of the Playa, he is there every year spreading his big ol smile and "oh yes, oh yes, oh yes's" all around. His take on 'Talking To You' is great. Cox gives the track a full on 4 on the floor club work over. Feels like I stepped back into the late 90's with a pumping groove and techy synths stabbing away in the back ground. I really enjoy how the arrangement has a sort of ebb and flow feel to it with the serrated synths that work their way almost like pads but to rough to be pads. The bell in the middle of the track is a real nice touch as well. Acid house is one of my favorite styles of music to listen to and the way that Cox subtly uses the acid line from the original is genius. Absolutely knocked this one out of the park.So I get asked quite a bit who my favorite DJ is. My knee jerk reaction to that is, are you kidding me I cant pick just one because there are so many that I have great love and appreciation for. John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk, Stacey Pullen, Kevin Saunderson, Danny Tenaglia and the list could go on for days. But then I think for a second and one name always comes to the front of my mind and then quickly out of my mouth, Carl Cox. Dude is a god of all things house, techno and everything in between. I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to experience his skill across the globe. I will never forget standing over his shoulder every Tuesday in July and August in 2009 at his weekly Revolution party at Space in Ibiza. Watching him work like that was so rewarding and to see how he plays with a crowd is just incredible. Sadly this will be the last year of this legendary party as he will be bringing it to a close at the end of this years season. Hopefully it is to create new and different experiences for so we can continue to enjoy his vibrant sets for many more years to come. Im not sure how far back but Cox is also someone you can expect to run into at Burning Man pretty much every year as he sets fire to the playa playing multiple sets for camps like Playground, Opulent Temple and more. I am personally looking forward to seeing him out on the playa again this year. There will be a couple of chances to make that happen for those of you who will be out in the dust with us. I think I am more excited to see his sets than I am to play my own. Just keep an ear out for that "Oh Yes, Oh Yes, Oh Yes" call and some of the most fire house beats you've ever heard in your life and you are headed in the right direction. See you in the Dust.If you missed it earlier this week we have a killer guest mix from British talent DeMarzo. Perfect to help get you through that long drive out to the playa or the work day or what ever really. Just listen to it.
