youandmeIn light of our guest Funkwerkstatt being from Berlin and our usual approach to Wednesday's Track of the Day being picked from the Weekly Mix tracklist I felt it seemed right to go with youANDme's latest thumper 'House Will Survive' recently dropped on our favorite feline imprint Suara.

youANDme ft. Brothers' Vibe - House Will Survive

When I think about the words raw and grainy, this track epitomizes those sounds perfectly. From the outset youANDme go for a straight down and dirty vibe and for 6 and a half minutes it does not let up. Brothers' Vibe vox is deep and powerful with proclamations such as "house will survive" and "i grew strong... and I kept on housin' on" resonating over top of phat groove. In the opening bars, my ears were greeted with a delightful kick and tom combo that emulated the aforementioned adjectives and really set the tone for the track. There's something really special about the sound design behind the bass because it's cleverly paired with that superb tom hit that rides into the heavily resonated sub bass and possibly sidechained with a second saw analog bass layer and the kick to give it a bit more grit. There's also a really nice delayed hand drum combo riding under those main rhythm layers combined with a really raspy clap that give the percussion layer so much character. There's also a really nice switch between the closed hi-hat and ride sequence used in the opening section of the track and when the drop kicks in a new, cleaner sample comes in. The focus of the composition is really intended to draw you in with that meaty bassline and vocals, but if you listen closely there's so much more going on and worth a few repeats. I cannot wait to hear this one pumping out on some big systems over the coming weeks.Check out the full release on Suara with some choice remixes from our homie Joeski and DJ T.youANDme are a forced to be reckoned with and their accolades, releases and collaborations are honestly too long to list and I would be foolish to sit here and list them all out. Simply put go check them out immediately. The Berlin based duo really impress me with their multi-faced approach to the industry, running multiple labels including a few mysterious ones serving up a healthy dose of music and talent from the European capital of electronic music (feel free to lay out your counter argument on this point to me). This interview with Deep House London serves up some awesome insight into the inspiring minds behind one of house music's hardest working groups.Enjoy,MR PUZL
