Track of the Day: Steve Bug - Lifting The Anchor
Hey family!I'm jumping in the review duties this week as my counterpart is boozing it up in NOLA. Allen French's latest guest mix for us is stellar and I've had a lot of fun sifting through the tracklist and really had no choice on what I wanted to review this week. This was made evident by the closing track, 'Lift The Anchor' by none other than the man, Steve Bug.
Steve Bug - Lifting The Anchor
'Lifting The Anchor' jumps off with a big meaty kick drum that has a nice high end click on the tail end showing some pretty sweet layering techniques. A super-tight, snappy shaker quickly joins the arrangement followed by some quick clap and snare combos to round out the percussive ensemble. All the while a deep, subtle bassline pulses between the beats adding a deep, sexy groove. As the lead synth fluctuates in resonance it invites a simple, vocal cut and a second bass cuts in every few measures to round out the tracks main elements. Delicate woodblock stabs and ambient risers are mixed in with varying drum fills to add variety to this healthy 7 minute groover. This track is apart of a stellar compilation to celebrate 15 years of Moon Harbour. Matthias Tanzmann the head honcho at MH has been the driving force behind the label and constantly pushes and elevates the quality of music by curating some of the best and brightest production minds in the industry.Bug is no stranger to our sets or just our usual consumption of music here at LAMP but this is actually the first time we've had the opportunity to include him in our Track of the Day reviews. The mind behind Poker Flat Recordings has been heralded as the 'Gentleman of Techno' by RA, and personally has over 80 releases, at least 40 remixes, plus compilations and over 500 release credits, attributed to his name. To say this guy is a legend would be an understatement. His work ethic, commitment to his trade and pure love of music resonates in his own work as much as his label and anything he's apart of. Now go take everything out of your bank account and purchase his entire discography, as well as anything off Poker Flat. That is all.Check out this tune and many other choice selects from this week's Guest Mix courtesy of Allen French.Enjoy,MR PUZL
