Track of the Day: Robosonic feat. KRS One - Free Flow
Hope everyone had a great weekend. PZB back here in the studio this week. It may not feel like it here in LA and the rest of California but summer is drawing to close. We still have one more week left before we begin to transition into Fall and its going to be a fun one here at LAMP. This week we are celebrating my birthday at Sound, one of my favorite clubs in all of Los Angeles. As an added treat I will have the great pleasure of playing alongside today's track of the day artists Robosonic. Last week they released this EP for a label we have featured here a couple of times before, Low Steppa's Simma Black. This track hits on a bit of a personal note for me. There are a few different versions and they all rock so in essence today's track is really the "EP of the Day".Robosonic has teamed up with the legendary KRS One on the vocal for this track. He is back again lending his vocal talents for this dance floor crushing EP. With out a doubt one of the most influential Hip Hop artists of all time. I was listening to all kinds of KRS one when I was a kid in the 90's. Although he has been doing it for much longer. After listening to the entire album a few times I have come to the personal conclusion that the Rap version is my favorite. Its tough though because they are all so good. In addition to that and the Club Rub another favorite here at LAMP, Low Steppa is on the EP with a great remix as well. You decide for yourself.I played sax as a kid growing up and this is one of my favorite samples of all time. In High School I taught myself the notes, how to play it, and used it as part of an audition medley which got me a part in the California young Musicians Orchestra. The track that originally drew me to the sample is "Let Me Clear My Throat' by DJ Kool. Being primarily a jazz player I was introduced by one of my instructors to listen to James Brown. After listening to a bunch of tracks came to realize that the original sample is one from his label. I had to go back into the lab and do some research but finally found it. The original sample came from Marva Whytney's 'Unwind Yourself'. Like seriously every time I hear this sax sample I just want to drop everything Im doing and get down. These guys Robosonic are one heck of a DJ duo. We have featured them here before and I am like a kid on Christmas having the opportunity to play alongside these two. I could go on much more about them but I will save that for another day when I am sure they will be featured here again. In the mean time make sure to come check them out this Thursday at Sound w/ Autograf, Aston Shuffle and yours truly. I cant wait!
