Track of the Day: Nick Höppner - Relate (The Black Madonna Remix)
We are on our 95th week of mixes here at LAMP and getting close to that century mark. This week we have another guest mix coming to you from Chicago but a fairly recent arrival to the Los Angeles area, J. Worra. For our track of the day we have another Chicago based producer and reigning queen of one of the finest venues in Chicago, Smart Bar. The accomplished DJ and producer takes on some remix duties for Nick Höppner and his EP remix pack released about 2 months ago for Ostgut Ton Records. The Black Madonna starts 'Relate' off with a booming kick, snare, clap, groove that builds gradually bit by bit. Fist comes an oscillating pad followed by the addition of an synth arpeggio that weaves itself in various ways throughout the rest of the track. As the track continues to build a few light and whimsical pads enter the fray as the kick drops out lulling the listener into a sense of ease before bringing it all back with a new stabbing lead and pumping groove to drive the track home. Make sure to check out the rest of the remixes of this EP if you enjoyed this one. Pretty solid.Last year along with the Risky Vision team I was fortunate to share a stage and see first hand the skills that The Black Madonna brings to the table. Along with Kevin Saunderson it made for a pretty memorable evening. Originally from Kentucky she moved to Chicago and started making a name for herself as a bad ass DJ playing all vinyl sets which eventually landed her a residency at Smart Bar.She obviously knows her way around a studio as well with several great releases including todays track. As the creative director for Smart Bar in addition to programming one of the most popular venues in the city she is also using that platform to help more women in the industry gain attention where it is deserved. Earlier this year in March she held a series of events and workshops called Daphne, focused on bringing more female artists into the spotlight. Helping to give them the tools as well as build networks in order to see more talented and deserving women being booked for in general from clubs to festivals and everything in between. Recently on her own she has continued to tour as well as keeping things locked down at home. Earlier this year has also seen her release with Stripped & Chewed Records as well as a kick ass performance a few months ago for the one and only Boiler Room. Check those out below and make sure to come back tomorrow for our 95th weekly mix with our guest artist J. Worra.
