Track of the Day: Meech - Somethin (Urulu Remix)
Today we're going back a few years to the first ever Clubhouse compilation Fool's Gold released in the summer of 2012. The tracklist boasted a few notable artists like His Majesty Andre and Anna Lunoe, who was just beginning her steady climb up the ranks. It also was host to a collection of fresh sounds from other budding artists, including a jackin' tune by Toronto based producer Meech called 'Somethin'. A few months after its release the label followed up with an incredible remix of the track by Urulu.
Meech - Somethin (Urulu Remix)
In this remix, Urulu puts a softer, deeper touch onto Meech's original jackin' house version. A soft kick and phased out snares with a host a cool additional percussive elements are the building blocks for the track and carry out a nice introduction. As the track progresses the kick is supplemented with a meaty rounder kick layer and delayed vocal cuts are partnered with the lead synth. The culmination of the build up leads into a wonderfully open beat and deep chord driven groove that is eventually reunited with the vocal and percussion layers. At it's core this track share soulful similarities to more classic style house tracks from the 90s with less attention on mood changing drops and more focus on creating a seamless journey through the music itself.Urulu aka Taylor Freels is a California native that now lives and breathes the music culture of Berlin. His diverse productions have landed him on several notable labels including the infamous Dirt Crew Recordings. Along with a host of solo releases, Freels can also be found collaborating frequently with fellow transplant, Steve Huerta. Their blissful deep house tune 'Settle Back Easy Jim' is a recent example of the duo's ability to be cohesive in the studio blending their unique styles into a focused output.
