Track of the Day: Max Graef & Glenn Astro - Titel 08 (feat. Paul Frick)
Max Graef & Glenn Astro - Titel 08 (feat. Paul Frick)
'Titel 08' by Max Graef & Glenn Astro delight us with its jazz infused groove lines, syncopated beats and a host of abstract sounds resulting in a soothing five and half minutes of uninterrupted meditative listening. An awesome subway rail sample eases us into a diverse arrangement of recorded sounds before a steady 4 / 4 beat takes over and kicks this track into the next gear. A cacophony of guitar riffs, percussive samples and bass lines intertwine with suspended drum rolls and extraneous sounds that feel like an orchestrated live performance rather than more traditional productions. Elements of funk can be found poking their way in the form of a tightly clipped vocal stab and a solid wah-wah style guitar loop. Overall this composition is forward thinking in it's approach while paying homage to some of the greatest styles in music to grace the human ear.Check out the full release of 'M$ 01' on their newly formed label Money $ex Records:Tracklist:A1 Cool Garageband IntroA2 Guwno Na PatetschukoA3 Caribean ScrewdriverB1 Titel 08 (feat. This marks a significant point in both of these producers' carriers. Rising stars in the budding alternative underground house scene, Graef & Astro embark on this new journey to expand the horizons of sample-house records derived from jazz, funk, soul and hip-hop. In his interview with Resident Advisor last year Max Graef mused about his love of jazz and hip-hop over house which drew the conclusion of why he's such a good house producer in the first place. 2014 proved to be a breakout year for this young producer as he released 'Rivers Of The Red Planet' with resounding success. Still, he maintains a lackadaisical approach and does not play up his accomplishments behind the decks or as his past productions joking that, 'Man, it's fucking techno, you can do it too, it's not a big deal,'. Surrounding yourself with like minded individuals is often the key to success and Graef has accomplished this with the help of OYE founded Delfonic (aka Markus Lindner) and others to provide exciting live performances and well crafted releases. His partner in crime Glen Astro is cut from the same cloth and seems to be following in his footsteps producing in a similar ilk while maintaining his own style and sound. His upcoming release 'Throwback,' which features Graef, explores the sample driven mood of the alternative house scene with an unabashed sense of child-like experimentation. 'Computerkiller' is certainly one of my favorites, swaying to and fro relaying a deluge of analog beats while the self-titled 'Throwback' introduces more of his hip-hop influences sampling vocals from legendary MC Ms. Jade's 'Jade's a Champ'. Knowledge is power and this young talent certainly has his ear to the ground researching and collecting a wonderful array of records to sample from. With only 2 releases so far including this latest drop, expect much more from them of the course of this year:Enjoy,MR PUZL
