Track of the Day: Iron Curtis - Sing Along With Your Friends
Iron Curtis - Sing Along With Your Friends
Iron Curtis fills our ears with 'Sing Along With Your Friends', comprising of a soothing collection of soft disco style synth stabs and soulful vocal cuts harkening to the gospel infusion of early 90s house. Throughout the course of the song, off-beat claps are mixed in with a few other disjointed percussion pads to create a bit of controlled chaos in an otherwise steady 4/4 rhythm. During one of the first bridges in the song we hear a warm muffled synth loop that only last for a few bars but is a welcoming break that builds nicely into a great hard cut piano loop. As we mentioned before, certain layers of this track are built with an intentional syncopation which bring a welcome respite from the more popular regimented compositions of modern deep house. The use of that smooth floating organ loop combined with a soft hi-hat loop is great and gives the track a great base to build upon and reinforces the classic elements of a solid house tune.If you're digging this track we highly recommend that you check out the full EP release on Hudd Traxx:Scanning his RA profile you come to find that Iron Curtis has intentionally not littered his bio with lengthy paragraphs about his accolades or personal minutia, rather he opts to share two very specific links; one to his(?) tumblr aptly titled 'The Universe Is Not About You' and the other to a store linking to books published or presenting works by what we assume to be his creative collaborators (e.g. Jesse Pollock). Johannes Paluka has gone by several aliases in his career; Achterbahn D'Amour, Leaves and of course Iron Curtis. The Berlin-based producer finds himself back at Hudd Traxx under this moniker where he debuted one of his early successes 'Stansfield EP' back in 2010. The label boasts an enormous roster full of names that would require more extensive research and its own dedicated post to mention properly. The most notable component of this imprint is its founders, Slum Science (Eddie Leader, Danny White & Rucky), who after a 4 year silence returned in 2013 and are now releasing a 7 track compilation celebrating 10 years of the label which features Iron Curtis among the listed artists. Iron Curtis' calm, laid back approach is reflected in his productions that invoke a vintage sentiment without feeling too dated. We will definitely keep an eye on this exciting artist as he continues to push out all manner of house vibes from across the pond.Check out more sounds from Hudd Traxx below:Also don't forget to check out Sage Caswell's Guest Mix for LAMP:Enjoy,MR PUZL
