Track of the Day: MANIK - The Right Moves
Track of the Day: MANIK - The Right Moves
To celebrate 10 years of Viva Recordings, label boss and house legend Steve Lawler has curated a three EP release "Decadedance" each featuring 4 new tracks from some of the best producers in the business past and present. The first dropped back in late October and featured Groove Armada, Phill Weeks, Harvard Bass & Junior Sanchez. The second featuring Lawler, Livio & Roby, Mathew Jonson and Catz 'N Dogs was released early November. I will link them all below because you should honestly be adding this whole thing to your collection. Most recently at the end of November, the third installment was released featuring Andrea Olivia, Eats Everything, Emanuel Satie and our track of the day 'The Right Moves' from MANIK.Once again MANIK shows of us his superior knowledge and skill blending a perfect mix of old and new to create an edgy house track with a jackin groove reminiscent of the late 80's early 90's groves coming out of Chicago at the time. A grungy driving sawtooth synth makes up the bass line, giving the track some more bounce. I love the way he works the myriad of claps, woodblocks and that 808 Cowbell in with the bass line. There is really a lot going on in this track in a very good way. There is always something exciting happening and changing from start to finish. Not to the point of distraction but surprise and satisfaction as MANIK essentially takes me back on a trip through history with the selection of sounds and samples he chooses to use and create. It is my favorite of the four if I had to choose from the EP although it was not an easy decision. I really enjoyed them all. Check them out below and decide for yourself.
