Track of the Day: Layton Giordani - Where It Begins
This week we welcomed Miami duo Ascendants to the weekly mix series. They gave us a pretty solid tracklist and mix to check out this week. One that caught my eye was a newer one from Layton Giordani.A couple of months back Giordani first caught my attention with his remix of Gabriel Ananda's "Dopplewhipper'. I was impressed with his thundering bass lines and really enjoyed his take on a track that I have been a huge fan of for years. Having had a young start in the industry, growing up in New York City, he gained a taste and desire for techno and dance music that has led him to where he is today. The East Coast native over the last couple of years has seen him garner attention from many of the big names in Techno and Tech House. Carl Cox's Intec records released an EP of his early on which caught the attention of another techno legend Adam Beyer who signed him to his imprint Truesoul before eventually getting a track signed to Drumcode last year. His latest effort for Drumcode is a full length album, which is no small feat and a testament to the talent oozing out of this young producer. "Where it Begins", one of 12 tracks on this massive LP, starts off with a huge booming kick (seems to be pretty standard operations for Giordani) that sets the pace for the track and gets things moving real quick. A chopped conga drum along with the patterns of the shakers, claps and rides add a little bit of a tribal essence to the groove and the track overall. The middle of the track is where this track really takes off as Giordani makes great use of space with sweeping pads and a multitude of percs and risers coming at you from all directions. In addition he creates a real human feel with the limited but highly impactful use of vocal elements through out the track. When I learned that this was an LP and one of twelve new tracks from him I was very eager to check out the entire album. I don't have time to review this whole album or I would. Let's just say I was extremely impressed with the entire LP and strongly recommend adding this to your collection for all of you techno heads out there.
