Track of the Day: Lauren Lane - Diary Of A Madwoman
We are setting ourselves up for quite the week here at LAMP starting off with Dan Jedynak's Guest Mix drop yesterday followed by his debut track coming out on LAMP tomorrow. We're sure it can only get better from there.Lauren Lane is a name already synonymous with house music and her talent is recognized worldwide by the industries tastemakers and floorshakers. However, being a Los Angeles based blog I'm ashamed that we have yet to write about this amazing woman consdiering she resides here. Fortunately for us the tracklist from this week's mix provided the perfect opportunity to do so albeit a bit on the late side as far as reviews go but nonetheless recognition of quality is due.
Lauren Lane - Diary Of A Madwoman
In the opening bars of this tune a filtered, rolling bass meets a cacophony of panning shakers, phased claps with a soft delay that pair with a soft snare hit. A soft synth pad leads into the timely shift of the aforementioned bass's filter, transforming it into something meatier with an accompanying sub that powers the energy of the low end really well. An addition of crisp hi-hats with a jackin' style rhythm round out the percussion layers nicely. The lead synth is delicate but mischievous resembling a high-pitched, slightly muffled clarinet that tempts you follow its seductive rhythm. The chords are transposed up and down the scale to really give the track some character. A host of ambient FXs and pads help guide the track along, and provide simple effective shifts from one part of the arrangement to the next. A moody vocal sample repeating "Does the world revolve around no one but you?" chimes in at critical moments of the composition and is also used as part of the environmental components of the FX layers. If you're intending to go a little deeper with your crowd but still want to keep them moving this is definitely a track to stick in your setlist. Here's the full EP that's got 2 other choice tunes in 'FOMO' and the 'The Right Kind of Weird':As I mentioned earlier Lane currently resides in Los Angeles but got her career started in the energetic and competitive landscape of the Big Apple. In fact the music video for this track was shot there and in her interview with Earmilk earlier on this year she mused that, "The energy is palpable, and for a song with such high energy it just made sense."Her debut EP 'Cool Kids' arrived to the world in 2013 via Nic Fanciuilli’s Saved Records and set her on an exciting trajectory with tours and bookings across the globe. A fan favorite and media notable with sets at Robot Heart, Coachella, and BPM Festival have solidified her place amongst house music's top DJ ranks. Clearly her productions garnered the right attention as this release found its way into Eat's Everything's new label, Edible early this year and received positive feedback across the blogosphere. If you really want to get a good understanding behind the mind of Lauren Lane then I highly recommend you read her recent interview with Chris Caruso at DJTimes.Have a listen to her Robot Heart set, we promise it's worth every second:Check this and other tracks out from our latest Guest Mix from Dan Jedynak.Enjoy,MR PUZL
