Track of the Day: Harry Axt & Kristin Velvet - Action / Reaction EP
Harry Axt & Kristin Velvet - Action / Reaction EP
To make up for my lackluster review yesterday I'm coming at ya with a special 2 track EP from an amazing label out of Berlin called Arms & Legs Recordings. Action / Reaction is a split EP between two fantastic producers, Harry Axt (aka Daniel Steinberg) & Kristin Velvet.
Kristin Velvet - Action
The track opens up with a recording of an interview with someone named Duke (apologies beforehand if I don't know the direct reference... trust me I googled like a mad man) who's is confused by the presenters original question. The closing line is a paraphrase of the Newton's Third Law , "For every reaction there is an opposite reaction" which inherently becomes part of the main chorus. This track definitely has an opening set vibe to it. Soft kicks and a deep synth lead move the track forward at a leisurely pace. Both the vocal leads have an airy, sultry feel to them and sit nicely over top of the main groove.
Harry Axt - Reaction
The reason I chose to review 'Action' first is relevant because this track also uses the exact same vocal sample collection. Reaction however, has much heavier, tech house feeling to it. It kicks off with a powerful kick and phased out snare / clap combo. A rolling synth lead blips and pops it's way throughout the track reminiscent of an 80's video game soundtrack. The breakdown develops into a deep techno rhythm layered with crunchy beats and saw wave synth stabs. While each track has its own character there is an obviously synergy and cohesiveness that makes this split EP so engaging. In some respects it's as iff Jekyl and Hyde got into a studio and were both told to make a track from the same sample library! Both of these artists are obviously independently talented and in particular Kristin Velvet's music acumen has been well documented within the label through previously releases and awesome mixes. The Berlin based label Arms & Legs has quickly established itself as a recognizable force within a deeply saturated German scene. Their scope of work is clearly demonstrated and provides a well rounded selection of music ranging from deep driving techno to more experimental deep house works.Dive into Arms & Legs catalog we promise not to steer you wrong:Check out this track and other reviews from this week on our very special #weeklymix featuring the Graff boys:Enjoy,MR PUZL
