Track of the Day: Harlequin (The Beauty And The Beast)[Underworld Remix] - Sven Väth
Well as you may have noticed by now I jumped back into the studio to put together this weeks mix. Had a little SNAFU with our guest mix artist this week. I didnt have much time to do it but was pretty satisfied with the results. Partly because I gave myself an opportunity to write about one of my top musical acts of all time, Underworld.Going about 20 years into the way back machine for this one. 'Harlequin' was originally produce and released by another one of my all time favorites, Cocoon Boss Sven Väth back in 1994. Back during a time when for the most part only Europe and the underground rave scene here in the US was listening to this type of groundbreaking music. Music which has been so instrumental in shaping the music world today. Underworld takes the track and add their signature sound with a driving 4 on the floor groove laced with majestic pads and synth lines that dance in and out with ease. From the moment the first kick drops you can already feel yourself getting lost in the fluid soundscapes this group has become so famous for.Throughout my life I have been extremely fortunate to have seen so many amazing musical acts. Of all of them I have ever seen, which is pretty much everyone I have ever wanted too,(a post for another day) Underworld stands at the top with a couple of select others(i.e Orbital, Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode, Daft Punk, Radiohead). I have had the good fortune to watch them perform at least 5 or 6 times and every single performance is phenomenal. They don't have the flashy lights and big stage productions like some of the other acts I mentioned earlier but they also don't need it. They are unique in how their music really stands alone and has the ability to move the masses. Add that to the energy that Karl Hyde brings to the stage with his vocals and unrelenting dancing. The Duo of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith who make up the core of Underworld have been making music since 1980. They saw the arrival of the legend Darren Emmerson for a time in the 90's and then after his departure in 2000 they went back to two until 2005 when Darren Price joined the group. He has been touring with the group since then. Underworld has been a major influence in my life and the lives of countless others some of which you can listen to down below. They have put together a set of voice recordings from fans that are reflective of their experience listening to 'Dubnobasewithmyheadman'. Pretty cool to listen to. Gonna go throw this album on right now actually. My only hope for them in the future is that they can continue to make amazing music for a long time to come!If you missed it yesterday you can check out todays track of the day and many more in my weekly mix for LAMP right here.
