LAMP-totd-geeemanThe week usually gets away from me pretty quickly and coupled with an exciting and demanding day job my reviews can fall by the way side in our usual schedule. Fear not! To all our readers who even click on the shared social links to read our reviews I've got a gem to make up for yesterday! This week's mix from FUNKWERKSTATT was phenomenal, from the outset it was primed with really solid house tracks including my choice for Today's (Friday's) Track of the Day. Geeeman is a name some may not be too familiar with but one of his many other popular pseudonyms Gerd might ring a bell. The tune comes off the a side of his Bang't / Fire Extinguisher ‎(12") which was put out on Clone Jack for Daze, a sublabel of Clone Records.

Geeeman - Bang't [Clone Jack For Daze]

A big booming kick and bubbling sub kick this tune off it all the right ways. Going with that classic four to the floor drive and standard 8/16 bar single track layering we get taken deep into the heart of dancefloor house. I always appreciate a track that gives the listener a bit of guidance by subtly and subconsciously teaching them the a bit about the arrangement and structure of the song. I digress because my favorite part about this track comes in about 12-15 seconds; that detuned organ synth. The way the pitch bend subtly plays into the chord progression gives it such a unique sound and it's truly addicting to hear it just loop over and over again. As I mentioned before the layering of each track is measure and timed really well. From the heavily panned 808 claps to a host of pre-delayed shakers, hi-hats and other distinct percussive elements the rhythm is dialed in and supplements a head-nodding groove that's just asking for some dancelfoor trouble. I just bought the vinyl yesterday and will definitely be adding this one into my next set over the 4th of July weekend.Check the snippets of the A & B sides of this release:2 things. I love everything about Clone NL and Gerd aka Geeman aka NY Stomp is definitely up there on my top favorite Dutch DJs. When label boss Serge formed Clone records back in the late 90s I wonder if he thought that it would ever take him as far as it has. I use the word purveyor quite a bit, and usually for good reason, and I reserver the right to use it again here. Serge has served as one of the most influential pioneers in Dutch and European underground music for nearly two decades. Here's just a short list of some of the artists he's worked with that I pulled off of the RA bio page (and trust me the full list is pretty epic); Radio Slave, D'Julz, Boris Werner, Ian Pooley, System Of Survival, Heartthrob, Moxie, Erol Alkan, Marcel Vogel, Dario Zenker, Okain, The Hacker, Geddes, Ben Sims, Paul Woolford, Etapp Kyle, Marko Nastic, Marquis Hawkes, Perc, Adam Marshall, Marquis Hawkes, Norman Nodge, Catz 'N Dogz and 502 others. Yeah you read that number right. To be consider a staple part of that crew Gerd and his many aliases have supplemented a diverse and almost encyclopedic collection of music that has shaped house and techno for almost 20 years. His track 'Still Believe' made it onto my collection immediately after Defected put the EP out a few years back and I always light up when I see him posting something my Soundcloud feed. For your education:If you haven't had a chance yet, definitely listen to this week's guest mix by FUNKWERKSTATT:Enjoy,MR PUZL
