Track of the Day: Format B - 'Chunky'
Format B - 'Chunky'
'Chunky' by Format B is an epitome of a dance-happy, tech house track with its exuberant vocals, bright percussions and body shaking bass lines. Quite often house tracks with old classic vocal samples only focus on a very minute component of the lyrics or even just a single word or sound. This process is both effective and also safe in the sense that producers can release an 'original' with out too much fear of backlash from purists. Format B opts for a much more bold approach using a series of phrases from 'Function at the Junction' by Huey Lewis & The News with resounding success demonstrating a proficiency of warping and modifying vocals that is an art in itself.Check out this awesome recording of Huey Lewis & The News performing 'Function at the Junction' (the video mislabeled the song title):Format B are Franziskus Sell & Jakob Hildenbrand, a German production duo with a healthy dose of musical and production experience in a variety of genres ranging from hardcore, funk and jazz to more classical formats. The two met while studying sound engineering in university, both yearning for an alternative outlet to the dominance of Metal and Rock of the time. Based in Berlin the two have thrived off of the cities inherent collaborative nature, resulting on releases for famed Stil Vor Talent, Say What Recordings, Material and many more. With an undeniable energy and resilience, releasing numerous tracks each year, Format B do not seem to be letting up anytime soon and their own imprint Formatik is another feather in the cap in their storied careers.Delve a little deeper into the world of Format B below:Check this and other featured tracks from this week on our latest guest mix by Fortune 421's Brady Spear:Enjoy,MR PUZL
