Track of the Day feat. Vintage Culture & theDuo, DJ Dan & Whitenoize, and Prince Dred
Happy hump day! I've got 3 new tracks to get you through your mid week slump. What better way than to serve up some funky beats from Vintage Culture & theDuo, DJ Dan & Whitenoize, and Prince Dred.
Everyday - Vintage Culture & theDuo
Lukas Ruiz aka Vintage Culture is a very young and talented producer hailing from Brazil doing some awesome deep takes on some classic tunes. Apart from sparce results on the interwebs, I unfortunately don't know much more about this kid (but if he feels inclined to hit us up for a short interview we'd be happy to oblige). On this track he teams up with friends Gustavo Assis & Ricardo Farhat aka. theDuo (also Brazilian natives) to create a sexy, deep, funk-house track featuring vocal tracks from Nate Dogg. Both of these artists Soundcloud's are chaulked with gems and some Free Downloads, so be sure to check them out.
Engine No. 9 - DJ Dan & Whitenoize
San Francisco natives Chris Harnett and David Carvalho have been around the west coast scene for a minute, releasing over 50 tracks on over 15 different record labels. Their track "Insecure" was a Beatport House chart topper and named one of the top 10 House songs of 2012. DJ Dan is a legend in his own right with names like Carl Cox and DJ Sneak attesting to his mastery of live DJing as well as pushing the boundaries of music production. "Engine No. 9" derives itself from the classic original written by country music artist Roger Miller made popular and famous in it's break beat revision by De La Soul. The latter is certainly the sample used in this rework and the collaboration with DJ Dan presents a solid funky house track full of energy. If you're curious here's Roger Miller singing the original:
Freak Like Me - Prince Dread feat. Bunny Sigler (DJ Dan Remix)
Here's another awesome DJ Dan work this time in the form of a remix of this cool funky track by Prince Dread called "Freak Like Me". The track features the legendary Bunny Sigler on vocals and was originally released as "Are You A Freak? (Like Me)" on vinyl back in 2002. Along with working on a plethora of track with artists like The Roots and Patti LaBelle, he also co-wrote "The Ruler's Back" Jay-Z's opening song off of The Blueprint. I tried to do a little digging on Prince Dred and only found a small bio on a pretty inactive Facebook account stating that he started his career in '79 in NY and then moved to Paris to continue to DJ and produce and start a record label. If anyone want's to contribute to this write-up please shoot us an email (lamp@solvethispuzl.com) so we can be as thorough as possible, it's such a good track ;)Enjoy,MR PUZL
