Track of the Day: Daniel Steinberg - Radical Fear
Daniel Steinberg - Radical Fear
Deviating from the booty shaking G House of Juany Bravo's today with a brand new drop from house master Daniel Steinberg and his latest release 'Radical Fear' forthcoming on Waze & Odyssey's Street Tracks imprint. The release is actually part of a 2 track EP with 'Lion Clap' premiering last week and nestles neatly in between his breakout LP 'Left Handed' and a string of remixes set to come out on Arms & Legs March 18th.Heavily panned tom loops and brushed hi-hats combine with a pounding four to the floor kick generating superb uptempo vibe that has me literally shaking in my seat as I write this. A well crafted distorted horn synth progresses its way to the foreground of the arrangement and creating a raw, dark atmosphere. An 808 cowbell cuts through the beat combined with raw samples of a swinging hand drum, staccato woodblock pads, and semi closed hi hat hits creating a playful diversity between rhythms. It's really exciting how hard the cuts between the two groupings of drums and FX play off each other, especially during the initial minutes of the track. It feels as though the track was arranged in a session style format and recorded into the arrangement live giving the composition a more natural feel and flow. As the title suggests the emotion and energy flowing from the track definitely insinuate a sense of panic or fear. The heavily FX'd vocal sample feels invasive and perilous as if a cyborg were chasing me down the street of some long abandoned city of a post apocalyptic world. As always Daniel Steinberg does not disappoint and really explores a plethora of samples at his disposal including the sounds of a train's whistle, and its wheels churning forth to name a few.Check out the other half of the EP 'Lion Clap'If you don't know much about Arms & Legs you should!
