Track of the Day: Crown Ruff - 'Yazz Claasics'
Crown Ruff - 'Yazz Claasics'
Newly formed duo Crown Ruff open up their account with a soulful house record in 'Yazz Claasics' full of wonderful piano licks and an array of spacey synths. The track's opening bars are a great example of how this production sits so neatly in the realm of classic and more modern flavors. The combination of crisp tight percussive elements intertwine with an awesome piano chord progression that sit neatly underneath a great lengthy vocal sample. The track's main vocal is sampled from a old classic disco record. Which one you say? You'll have to do some serious digging, as the duo are not about to reveal any of their secrets. This style and composition are reminiscent of old classic like Hardrive's 'Deep Inside', Fingers Inc. 'Can You Feel It', Robert Owens, and of course the late Frankie Knuckles. Crown Ruff have clearly done their homework and if this is a taste of things to come, we are thoroughly looking forward to their future releases.Crown Ruff are Kedd Cook (aka Ian Alexander) and Tate DeSmet based here in Los Angeles both with budding solo careers. Kedd is on a steady rise with is own personal career frequently behind the decks at LA's premiere clubs and late night spots.
