Track of the Day: Chris Lorenzo v Kelis - Hooch
Chris Lorenzo v Kelis - Hooch
Chris Lorenzo returns with a monster tune in 'Hooch' featuring legendary R&B singer Kelis juxtaposing her seductive vocals with his signature bass line drops. Floating vocals and a delicate synth pads open up this track creating a friendly, deep and ambient effect. Layered with a series of soft percussions we expect the build to land neatly into a classic house groove but as the chops stutter at the climax we severely underestimate the track's destination. The drop provides a completely different story to it's introduction as Lorenzo assaults us with crunchy synths and a meaty bass line that, without clever composition and expertise, would not work under other circumstances. Fortunately for Lorenzo, his rise to solo prominence and long established dominance in the UK bass scene allow for this flexibility and creative freedom to synthesize to seemingly different vibes. As has been revealed in several other interview most with THUMP last year, Chris Lorenzo has been at this hustle since he was only 16. Mainly sitting behind the curtain and ghost producing in his early year, he quickly gained a mountain of experience working with and for other artists to establish a sound that would become known around the world as Jackin but more accurately (according Lorenzo himself) the genre is better described as "house and bass" . His foothold in this and other UK bass related genres were not immediately apparent to fans as others would step in and take the limelight on his productions. After a decade of busting his ass and putting his nose to the proverbial grindstone it's time for Chris Lorenzo to take his place amongst the world's top producers. A plethora of collaborations with production partner Hannah Wants lead to the two signing to Ultra last year priming the UK bass sounds for the American audience with resounding success. His obvious involvement in Cause & Effect has been a catalyst for his independent success and the perfect platform for him to breakout and launch his solo career. This mix from last year for Mixmag puts a official stamp on this producers already long standing vocation and his long awaited foray into the spotlight:Here's a healthy dose of his productions for you to download and listen to.
