Track of the Day: Bohn - Dettklock

As we mentioned in our Weekly Mix post earlier today all of the Track of the Day selections and write ups this week will be from Devoe and pertain to two tracks that were mixed together in this weeks mix which is posted down below in case you missed it.

Bohn – Dettklock/Sleepy Cat – Six In The Morning

Devoe: Have you ever felt like a tub of Jell-O before? Me neither, that is, until I heard Bohn’s “Dettklock”. I can now say that I know that feel bro. The attention getter for this track is obviously that insane wobbly bassline. Put on some headphones and listen to this track. If you don’t feel like you are sponsored by Bill Cosby, then I’ll eat my shoe. Also, if you tell me you don’t, you probably just want me to eat my shoe. Sorry to disappoint :p The wobbles of the bassline start in the breakdown, and when the drums kick in the groove is infectious. As the track plays out you slowly start to notice the bassline is shifting pitch. It causes this wrenching of tension in the track that really leaves you wanting more…just like Jell-O! The only thing that I really don’t like about “Dettklock” is that the main portion of the tune where you can really tear up the dancefloor, is much too short! However, a wise person once told me that instead of failure and disappointment, one should see opportunity…opportunity to improve, or to approach things from a new perspective. The entirely too long drum-less section of “Dettklock” led me to experiment. What should one do with a portion of a song without a kick? You put one in! This is where my good friend and fellow LAMPer Sleepy Cat comes in. Sleepy put out this great minimal house tune with LAMP (free download ya’ll!!) called Six In The Morning that perfectly blends into the breakdown with Dettklock! When you start hearing the Slick Rick “Six In The Morning” samples in the mix, that’s the moment I start bringing in Sleepy’s track, so much of the kick for “Dettklock” is actually from “Six In The Morning”. Mid-breakdown the “Six In The Morning” drums pull out and give way to the bassline to ramp up for the drop. One final “She ain’t leavin’ till six in the morning” and Sleepy Cat’s tune funks out with a great 303 inspired bassline and steppy drums that get your head nodding. If you have not checked out any of Sleepy Cat’s work I highly suggest you spend some time doing so! Do not sleep on Sleepy!
