Track of the Day: wan wan - Reinhard Voigt

Track of the Day: wan wan - Reinhard Voigt

This week for the LAMP Weekly Mix after another great run of guest mixes I decided to jump back in the mix. I had the idea to see what it would be like if I created a mix with tracks from 2007 and 2017. One of those major influence from back in 2007 that is still very much an influence today is Kompakt Records, specifically their sub-label Speicher. I have the entire collection now in digital form and several (highly coveted) in vinyl form as well. It is one of those labels where I kind of get goosebumps when I see a new release is out. Happened today when I saw the latest announcement for Laurent Garnier coming up next month. Anyway lets get to today's track of the day shall we. Reinhard Voigt who also happens to co-owner for Kompakt paired up with Terranova to remix his previous single "Husky" while Voigt tackled "Labrador". Both are incredible and worth the price of admission ten fold. I am not 100% sure about this for the vinyl peeps out there because I do not have the vinyl but in the digital copy there is a third track from Voigt "wan wan".This beast of a track grabbed my attention immediately and paired perfectly with Oxia's "Not Sure" from Speicher 50 making for a nice connection to 2007 for that label. I am particularly fond of the deep sawtooth synth pulsating throughout the majority of the track. From start to finish the song is basically one continuous build coming in progressive waves accentuated by a plucky synth and a menagerie of percs and risers. The one break in the track is a nice breather that gets a little funky with a vox that sort of sounds like an evil clown that I am certain I also heard in his remix of "Husky", before getting right back down to business for the remainder of the track. It is only a snippet from Soundcloud so I will post some other links down below where you can listen to the entire release.
