Track of the Day: Time (FR) & John Revox - Enough
It's all about the last Friday of the year! This one comes down to the wire since we're heading right into New Years Eve tomorrow. I've been pouring through tracks over the past few days ahead of our LAMP show at sound tonight with Classixx and the homie Birdee. With that in mind there's really only one thing on the brain today, Disco! Now over the course of its illustrious history, disco has undergone several transformations and has fragmented into a plethora of sub-genres as well as inspiring ones that seem far off the spectrum of its original style. While my selection today doesn't truly fit as a traditional disco track it definitely borrows quite a few elements from the genre. Enough by Time (FR) & John Revox will most certainly get a spin tonight during my set!
Time (FR) & John Revox - Enough
Originally conceived by French collaborators John Revox & Time (FR) a few months ago, the track was listed on the former's account as available for licensing. The track must have caught the ear and attention of the folks at Go Deeva who prominently worked on acquiring the track and releasing it under the sub-label Go Deeva Light. The track has a really nice and clean opening with some soft hats and claps running over the top of a field recording of a busy street of some sort. Shortly after a sweet funky bass line establish the main groove of the track to get that noggin shaking. Eventually the full arrangement of drums, kick, cowbells et al join in on the fun and set the track off on its merry way. A series of varying vocal cuts bob in and out of the arrangement as a slow building synth makes it way to the forefront leading us into a nice swift build up. The track continues to build as a cool electro-guitar chord progression is added into the mix. My favorite part of the track doesn't really reveal itself until about halfway through. A 'preacher' vocal begins lecturing us about how much we should appreciate what we are given and not complain or wish for things that we don't have or that others have. It's personally a very powerful message and is the essence of the reason the track is called 'Enough'.There not any real information about John Revox's partner in crime on this tune Time (FR) but if he's reading this hopefully he'll chime in. As for John Revox he's been around for quite some time with his career seeming to start around 2007. While a lot of the labels are not familiar to me he has built up a healthy catalog and even gotten a nod on labels like Ultra and Hypertraxx. He also displays a wide range in styles demonstrating his command of the studio. If there are more tracks in the works like 'Enough' from Revox and co. then I'm looking forward to it!Enjoy,MR PUZL
