Track of the Day: Thomas Cerutti - Little Helper 230-6
This week we had Arms & Legs co-founder Nils Orhman on the weekly mix series here at LAMP. Mr. PUZL has a great interview with him you can check out here. Purusing his track list I found a track from the Little Helpers Label by Thomas Cerutti which caught my attention. '230-6' is a fantastic tech-house style track with a bit of a minimal twist to it. I rumbling kick and bass line dominate the groove while the high hat taps away to the beat in an almost mechanical fashion. In true minimal fashion Cerutti is very methodical in his introduction and removal of different instruments never having too much going on at any one time. Dropping a vocal in here, synth stabs over there, or utilizing different noise and filtering FX. Always taking advantage of the full spectrum of sound available to hhim. He does a great job of making the song feel like it is coming from all around you. You can listen to the full track below.I wanted to take a second and talk a little bit about Little Helpers today. I first discovered their releases with #163. All of their tracks are numbered for their title because essentially the entire catalog is a collection of DJ tools. I dont like to Copy and paste stuff here but the description on their site puts it into words far batter than I could."Little Helpers is a conceptual digital label courtesy of Andrew Rasse (a.k.a. Butane) and Sean O'Neal (a.k.a. Someone Else) launched in December 2009. Each track is a strong, reduced groove-tool aimed to satisfy the increasing number of digital DJs. Much like the traditional lockgroove vinyl, these tracks are suitable for looping, editing and layering. Yet at the same time, each track has enough variation to stand on its own. That is, each tune lies somewhere between a full track and a DJ tool -- focusing solely on the rhythm or a singular idea rather than extraneous arrangements. "I know we have a fair number of DJ's out there that follow the blog and we are always trying to find new and quality avenues to express ourselves and provide a quality experience to our listeners. I was really happy to see this in the mix by Nils Orhman for us this week so I could take this opportunity to share the label and the music they have been putting forth. They just releases #235 with Sander Ellerman and it is just as good as the rest of them. Head over to their Soundcloud or Youtube page to check out more from them. Also make sure to catch today's track of the day in this weeks guest mix. Enjoy
