Track of the Day: Soundcycles - Receiving Sight
Soundcycles - Receiving Sight
When it comes to describing what Liquid Drum & Bass sounds like, this tune 'Receiving Sight' by Soundcycles really captures that vibe well. A beautiful jazz sax loop greets us as the track opens up with smooth piano chords, soft shakers and whole lot of ear sex. Tightly packaged snares slide over top of a funky bass line that pulls together the low end of this track really well. While lacking in apparent complexity the composition and clean arrangement instill the idea that sometimes simplicity is the key. The artist had this to say about his release:"Receiving Sight... is a jazzy roller again packed full of liquid vibes, sax, piano's, chords all laid on top of a crispy drum pattern and deep subs."As I continue my return to Drum & Bass research I find yet another tangent within this eclectic genre in its 'liquid' sibling. 'Receiving Sight' was released on Soul Flex Digital, a UK based label that focuses on this particular DnB sub genre. As is apparent from it's discography it curates it's artists' releases very well and hold true to over all aesthetic of the liquid style and soundscape. The smooth jazz influences are prevalent in Liquid DnB along with crisp and clean percussion layers with the tempo being the true defining factor of its characteristics. Not much is known about this apparent newcomer to the scene, Soundcycles. The Ireland based producer certainly came out strong with this EP, and apart from a few releases on Funkstuff Recordings we have little to go off of. What we do know and think is that there is a lot of promise based off of these early productions. If you want to get a feel for Soundcycles' current diversity check out the other track from this EP 'Bulletproof', it's got a super tight vocal sample in it and some flute loops that even Ron Burgundy would be proud of:Listen to this and other tracks from this week's Guest Mix by Jeff Devoe:Enjoy,MR PUZL
