Track of the Day - Skiathos - Koen Groeneveld
Skiathos - Koen Groeneveld
Whats up gang PZB back at it again this week. Figured I'd heat things up pretty quickly this week by giving you a taste of 'Skiathos' by Koen Groeneveld off his Abzolute imprint. A pumping track that shows this legendary producer's ability defy genres. From its onset you know you are in for a great ride when the track sets off with an excellent sort of house groove that slowly develops until the main baseline is introduced at which point track takes a sharp turn into the realm of tech house and techno. 'Skiathos' has one purpose and one purpose only and that is to get that ass shaking and your hands in the air. Add in some choice vocal samples along with those gritty synth pads and you can take this one to the bank. Some classic shit here.

It should come as no surprise either. That is unless you have know idea who Koen Groeneveld is. I have been listening to and collecting creations from this producer from the Netherlands for more than 15 years now. Under his Koen Groeneveld moniker his releases only go back to around 2008 when he launched his Abzolute imprint on Spinnin' Records along with the smash hit Wake Turbulence that sat on top the the beatport charts in July of that year. Since then he has had at least one more #1 and several top 10 charting tracks. He has worked with just about every producer you can think of; David Guetta, Umek, Mark Knight, and Ferry Corsten are just a few. It would take an entire page to list them all.Previous to 2008 he was known as Boozy Woozy part of a group of musicians out of the Netherlands that called themselves the Klubbheads. It get a little confusing at times because they went by so many different names under the Klubbheads project. Koen along with Addy van der Zwan aka Itty Bitty, were responsible for some of the most influential and popular dance tracks from the mid to late 90's and on until Koen started producing under his own name in 2008. In addition to the one above, one of the tracks in particular which is still one of my most treasured vinyls is the track they helped produce along with DJ Jean back in 1999 called 'The Launch'. Yeah its trance, but this was the jam back in the day. Hope this brings a smile to your face on this some what dreary Los Angeles Monday morning. New mix coming to you tomorrow until then enjoy this classic track as well as a remix from Koen that you can download for free.Listen to this and other tracks from my Weekly Mix below:Enjoy,PZB
