Track of the Day: Matador - The Resort (Darren Emerson Remix)

It has been the year of the 'Ructions'. It is no secret I enjoy Matador's works very much. This year has seen him release his first full length album 'Ructions' to compliment the amazing catalog of original works and remixes he has done over the years. As well as kick off his new label Rukus Recordings. In doing so he has produced a steady stream of releases and remix packages to compliment his debut full length album, released at the end of April this year. It would be very easy for me to spend an entire month just doing reviews for all of the originals and remixes that have come from this one LP. To say he has done an incredible job would be an understatement. On top of the 12 originals, he has gotten some of the most talented and respected artist in the industry to produce some insane remixes. Those names include Pig & Dan, Paco Osuna, Oliver Huntemann, Fur Coat, and many others. As big as all of those names are none are as big as Darren Emerson. We have featured him here once before mainly because he is a god among men in the electronic music world. The former member of Underworld and boss of Detone Records after a lifetime of laying down tracks has nailed another one with this remix of 'The Resort'. We only get a snippet until it is available on October 2nd but it is enough to get a really good idea of where Emerson is going with this track.Sticking with the original tracks epic chord line that wanders through the track Emerson takes it to another level. Adding subtle stabbing synth notes and pads along with a very robotic sounding synth that pops in from time to time, Emerson gives the track a bit of a traveling through outer space vibe you get from the original. It has a very mechanical feel but still remains very loose and bouncy and overall is very vibrant. I really like the staccato baritone sax sounding instrument he introduces in the break. How he ties it all back in together with the main chorus and the rest of the parts of the track is so smooth. It's like he just flips a switch and the whole things just blends itself back together. Like is said before Emerson is a god. Sitting here writing this and listening on repeat I can feel every part of this track through my whole body. There is a fullness and richness to the song that is hard to describe. Really looking forward to the release of the full mix pack so I can get my hands on this track. Enjoy and make sure you check out all of the other remixes from Ructions while your at it.Now here is an idea... Third Son Remix of Matador or Vice Versa, oh man I can only imagine how good that might be. We had the pleasure of having Third Son on our weekly mix series this week so make sure you give that a listen if you haven't yet.
