Track of the Day: Habischman - Soul

This week we have one of my favorite new talents in the music world Third Son in the mix for us here at LAMP. MR PUZL and I had a chance to ask him a few questions which you can check out here. One of those pertained to his label he launched, Polymath Recordings. Drawn initially to it with the original release of 'Genus' earlier this year, featuring Third Son along with Einmusik and Pete Oak. This isn't like most EP releases though. Originally I had presumed it was a track that Third Son wrote and was remixed buy the other two. What is really happening is something far more interesting and way cooler in my opinion. There have been three total releases so far. The second consisting of original interpretations of 'Devotion' from Marc DePulse, Mattia Pompeo and former LAMP guest mix artist Rafael Cerato. The most recent is 'Soul' interpreted by Finnebassen, Jonas Saalbach & Tschoris and the focus artist for today's track of the day Habischman. I say interpretations, because according to the label each track is the individual artists take on a particular theme that has been presented to all three of them. As MR PUZL stated in the interview with him Polymath is like walking into an art gallery for music. Each individual has their own take on a particular piece and that is the beauty of it all.Habischman is someone who I first became exposed to a few years back with his release on a Moda Black compilation and have followed since then. His take on 'Soul' is the one I was drawn to most, because of the driving nature of the arpeggio bass-line. It is relentless and rarely lets up as it meanders through the groove and chorus of Gregorian style chanting and buzzing synths that sound like swarms of bees swooping in from the left and right. If you listen carefully to all three versions of Soul, at least for me, the theme that ties them all together seems to stem from a Spanish guitar trill and the overall vibe that that instrument brings to the table. I could be completely wrong but that is just what I am hearing. Check out the other two for yourself and see if you can pick it out. Who knows you might find something completely different that ties the tracks together. Then if you haven't listened yet make sure to head over to LAMP and get your ears on this incredible mix from Third Son. Enjoy.
