Takuya Matsumoto - Seasons
Takuya Matsumoto - Seasons
I had an opportunity to pick the brain of LA duo Sunset Groove earlier this week as part of their Guest Mix release. It put into perspective a few things about the current state of electronic music and how it takes form by all manner of variables. Subcultures within LA alone have adopted forms of house and bass and carved out new identities by injecting their own cultural backgrounds. It then asks a bigger question of how electronic music has evolved and cross-pollinated on a larger scale across the globe. With that notion I'm going off the proverbial beaten path of my usual track selections with something that popped up in my feed early this morning in the form of 'Seasons' by Takuya Matsumoto off of his recent EP drop Places of Colours via FINA Records.Primarily tagged as #introspective, 'Seasons' emanates a peaceful sensibility that enchants the mind. Warm welcoming kick and snare combinations unravel into a delightful array of lighthearted synth stabs. Each transition is effortless especially once the rolling piano chords flutter into the foreground of the tracks enveloped by a host of airy soundscapes dancing to and fro. An initially timid 8-bit pad joins the group before taking center stage for several bars. We are propelled in a variety of directions with complex and carefully planned out arrangements underlined by a simple and effective rhythm. I wanted to refrain from this analogy but I couldn't resist... At times listening to this track I feel as if Mario has suddenly slipped into a deep sleep and entered Kirby's dream world. Overall I am incredibly impressed and grateful that this track somehow made its way to me this morning!
Takuya Matsumoto - Assembly EP [Meda Fury]
Takuya Matsumoto has clearly defined himself and explored a plethora of electronic landscapes over the course of his music career. It has been noted that up until the release of 'Galactic Dance' the producer has been perceived more as an extremely talented hobbyist. But upon arrival of the aforementioned track on Royal Oak, a sub label of the massive dutch distributor Clone, the spotlight has definitely been appropriately shone in the direction of Matsumoto. Within the coming months collaborations, such as the dreamy 'Afloat On A Sea Of Nothing' with Paxton Fettel and other original releases packaged into EPs began to stream out to the public. This latest delivery via FINA continues to see his body of work propelling forward and without a doubt an unheralded talent that will hopefully see that reputation become something of a short-lived notion. If you haven't had a chance yet be sure to take a listen to Sunset Groove's latest Guest Mix:Enjoy,MR PUZL
