LAMP Weekly Mix #163 feat. Jamie Prado
It has been exactly 60 mixes since we last had Jamie Prado on the series. He has prepared a wonderful mix for us and just in time for our 4 Year Anniversary on February 25th. With a fresh release on under his belt this year, we can only wait in anticipation for more to come from Prado.PZB: Welcome back to the mix series. We are excited to have you back. We have a lot to talk about since the your last appearance on the series. Lets start off by having you tell us a little bit about the mix you have for us this week.Jamie Prado: Thanks! Great to be back. This mix represents my sound. Incorporates everything I love about house music with that deep vibey tribal latin mood I groove on. I wanted to create a mix that flowed, built and broke down, not simply a selection of “summer bangers”.PZB: Over the the last couple of years we have had the honor of releasing some of your music through LAMP in addition to our PUZL Records imprint. Most recently we released ‘Feel Alright’ which was your first original for 2017. You surely have more on the horizon for this year. Can you give us any leads of what and when to expect them?JP: Sure, coming later this month is my collaboration with Grimm (of Rainer & Grimm) called 'One Night' coming out on Lavish Records and following that is a remix I’ve done for a label called House Music With Love based in Sweden. I’ve got stacks of original material at the moment we’re deciding what to do with and I’m working with a new vocalist named Gregory Doveman from Russia and we’ve got some gems cooking. So lots bubbling under the surface.PZB: When we first met you had just returned from you first trip to your homeland of Columbia since you were very young. We remember you telling us how huge an impact that has had on your life. What would you say you enjoy most about your time there and how have these trips influenced your approach to music production going forward?JP: Where to begin? I enjoy everything about Colombia, the climates, the people, the food, the music, the culture and the energy. Environmentally, it’s had every effect and impact. I’ve backpacked through the most beautiful places imaginable gaining inspiration from the tropical flare of afro-Caribbean communities on the coast to high altitude rhythms of the indigenous groups and it all comes through my sound now.PZB: Last year saw the launch of a new label Midnight in Paris headed up along with Tom Astley of L’Affaire Musicale. With releases coming from yourself, Birdee, & Loframes last year and most recently Mahalo you guys are off to a great start. Tell us a little about the vision that led to the development of Midnight in Paris and what to expect in 2017?JP: The vision was to create a label that was not only a home base for artists we believe in but also show homage to our love of classic Bluenote artworks, future-vintage and classic aesthetic. We have a sound but not a sub-genre and its been amazing to work with all these different artists who’s music is painting our canvas. We’re not a label that rushes out releases. We take our time, build and develop with our artists and create landscapes for them to flourish in. We’ve got a lot in store for 2017, but no teasers just yet.MR PUZL: This week has been busy one for you! Between a very special Ed Sheeran remix drop and a wonderful podcast mix for our friends over at Tamarindo not to mention this excellent mix! What drives and motivates you to continue to produce so much amazing content and music?JP: Well. Thank you. What motivates me is the constant flow of ideas in my head. They gotta go somewhere.MR PUZL: You’ve obviously got your ear to the ground between crafting your own sets and submissions your receive at your imprint MIP. Who is catching your ear at the moment?JP: Captain Planet, Nicola Cruz, Mitu, Bomba Estereo, Black Coffee, Matanza, El Buho.MR PUZL: If you could throw a weekend festival in Colombia with an unlimited budget. How would you curate it?JP: I would host it in 3 locations (city, mountains, beach). We'd coordinate a visual broadcast from each location to the other with the artists mentioned above. And, me of course.
