LAMP Weekly Mix #156 feat. Dead Space
LAMP Weekly Mix #156 feat. Dead Space
Orlando based DJ and producer Dead Space has exploded onto the scene this past year with a host of energetic house tracks that have garnered the attention of some of the scene's prominent labels such as Toolroom, Glasgow Underground, Audiophile and Great Stuff Recordings to name but a few. With his own brand of bass injected grooves and drum laden beats Dead Space has already caught the attention of Insomniac Events having played their EDC Orlando event earlier this year. With both a solid foundation of performance and production skills at his disposal we're excited to see what is in store for him this coming year. To learn more about this rising talent check out MR PUZL's interview with Dead Space Down below followed by the full track list.MR PUZL: Happy Holidays and welcome to our final weekly mix series of the year! Tell us a bit about the mix you’ve put together. We saw that you opened up with a new unreleased tune!Dead Space: Thanks Guys! Happy Holidays! Yes, I opened this mix off with one of the tracks from a forthcoming EP with Dateless. I’ve also included a remix of mine coming out in early 2017 of Brian Busto track “Primitive” coming out in early 2017 on Slightly Off. Lastly I closed the mix off with a recent collaboration with the boys Lex & Wood. Other then that that I threw together some tunes that have been doing it for me recently.MP: What would you say attributed to your initial interest in DJing and producing? What came first?DS: Djing came first but it all started with being on the dance floor! 2012 is when I really got locked into making house music. I’ve yet to take a day off!MP: We love it when labels can come together and share each other’s artists and their work. The Audiophile crew have been awesome with their support of some of our family members and vice versa. How did you first come to start working with them?DS: In 2015 I signed a 4 track EP on Audiophile Deep. Keeping relations consistently after I had built a strong relationship with a few members of the label. Eventually leading to being offered a management deal, which I accepted and now here we are!MP: Collaborations can be a great way to improve or expand one’s own knowledge of production and creativity as a whole. You have worked with a few different artists over the past few years such as Chay, Mr. Lekka and now Dateless. How did those relationships come about and how did you approach working together?DS: Luka (Mr. Lekka) and I met online a few years ago and just winged it. Our styles matched and our workflow was really fast. Chris (Chay) is a great friend of mine and a talented musician. We made a track “The Spark” which was signed to Hotfingers in 2014 I believe. I was doing a party in Orlando where I brought him out and we always just clicked as friends. After realizing we lived nearly 8 minutes away from each other we spent all this year in the studio together. (Xavier) Dateless has became a great friend also. After sending him some promos I mentioned a possible opportunity for a collaboration and after a few months he said yes. Now we have 4 tracks coming out in 2017!MP: You’ve released across several notable labels already in your career. That must be very rewarding and motivating. Do you have your sights set on approaching new labels next year?DS: I love the labels I work with now and of course would love to continue to expand on to all of the notable labels running the scene today. We’ll see where things go this year, expect Toolroom, Glasgow Underground & Audiophile Deep for sure.MP: In an interview with Insomniac you mentioned that house and techno music transcend popular trends in electronic music and that it will continue to thrive. As our listeners become more intelligent and diverse with their tastes, how do you see your own music evolving? Do you find that your performance may also adapt to more hybrid ‘live’ setups to keep things interesting?DS: Great question! My music is evolving each and everyday. The dance floor is what drives my imagination. Being from the states I like to incorporate elements that are fun and full of energy to make people who may not even like electronic music have no choice but to move . The “Live” DJ set has been a hot topic in my mind this year and I imagine I will make the effort to dedicate my time to preparing that in the future!PUZL: You’re a Florida native, specifically from Orlando. How have you seen the electronic music scene develop in your city and across the state? What do you feel has helped so many other producers from the Sunshine state excel in this industry? DS: We have a rocking scene here with locals like Carlos Mendoza, Renzo Ruiz, Elias R, Michael Rosa ect. The parties are always packed these days and the scene is thriving. To me its all about the time focusing on being a local Dj or mastering the craft and skill of production. I took the studio route and steered clear of partying for a few years and it is really what developed my sound and creativity.MP: Work and life balance is already demanding for those with a family such as yourself. On top of that you also have a full time job. Do you have to keep your days pretty structured or are you able to wander into your studio when the mood strikes to start working on new ideas?DS: With three children and a wife, my time as you can imagine is very limited. Even when I’m home my daddy duties come first and I make sure to keep my house happy before anything, usually. ;) I work every chance I get, 10 minutes here, 20 there. Then most nights I’m working in the studio after 10, until I pass out.PUZL: When you’re not working or in the studio what do you and your family like to do to relax and get out of the house?DS: Dance class, Ice cream, the park, thrift shops, grocery stores,Grandma’s house, you know, the fun stuff.PUZL: Favorite brand of Florida’s finest OJ?DS: The local farmers markets usually offer some really good fresh squeezed!
