LAMP Weekly Mix #155 feat. Unique (Cro)

This week we welcome a long time friend and wonderfully talented producer and DJ, Unique from Croatia. These last few years have seen him steadily rising in the scene with releases on 1605, Natura Viva and Deeperfect naming a few. He also recently launched his new record label Selbstportrait-Musik. When he isn't busy smacking tennis balls (he is a pro at his club in Pula) he is busy in the studio cranking out new tunes and making a name for himself as one of Croatia's best. We took a moment to ask him a few questions and get an idea of what goes on in the world of one of the top producers coming from Croatia today.PZB: It is long overdue having you be a part of our Weekly Mix series here at LAMP and I could not be more excited. Can you let us know what you have in store for us with your mix this week?Unique: So basicly the mix is a ride of deep and dark melodies with emotions...PZB: We first met in Ibiza in 2009. Just a couple of dudes bouncing around the island together from party to party. I learned a whole lot from you that summer and it has been amazing to watch your career blossom these last few years. What would you say were some of the important steps that you took from that point to get to where you are today?Unique: From that time till today i grew up a lot in mixing and production, you know that the music styles changes in the years so i also changed my style during the years in djing and producing.PZB: When we first met I was still using Serato and you had blown my mind with your Traktor set up. I believe you had a couple of Faderfox Midi controllers and were using the Allen and Heath Xone 92 mixer. Do you still use Traktor and if not what does your set up look like today? Unique: I use Traktor with 2 Kontrol X1, Boss DD-7 pedal and Allen & Heath Xone 92, but sometimes I play also on CDjs and vinyls when I play b2b sets with someone.PZB: As long as I have known you you were always very heavily into Tech-House and Techno. You were responsible for me getting to know guys like Richie Hawtin, Valentino Kanzyani, Marko Nastic and Alexander Madness to name a couple. Our tastes tend to change over the years so I am curious which producers would be at the top of your list today?Unique: My top producers now at the moment are: Tale of Us, Maceo Plex, Nick Devon, Blancah, Fur Coat, Recondite, Baikal, but there are lots of others also.PZB: I saw that you recently kicked off your own record label, Selbstportrait Musik. Please tell us a little bit the vision behind that and what we can expect from the label in the future.Unique: Selbstportrait Miusik is more then just a label, it acts as a network to connect people, ideas and music. The label concept is that it describes the personality of each artist.PZB: I would love to feature all of the tracks that you put out but the volume is so high it wouldn’t leave much time for anything else. You have been fortunate enough to work alongside guys like Wally Lopez, had music released on 1605, Deeperfect, KD Raw and several other notable labels. What does 2017 have in store for you that you can tell us about?Unique: I finished an EP with Wally Lopez which will be out next year on Brise Records, I did a remix for Dimitri Nakov for one amazing vocal track that will be released on his label Percomaina...There are lots unreleased tracks ready for 2017 so will see where will be released ;)PZB: Take us through your studio if you can please. What is your primary way of producing along with any critical pieces of equipment you may have acquired you can’t live with out?Unique: Recently I bought Moog Sub37 which is huge analog synthesizer and Roland Tr-8, when I start to produce a track it reflects mostly of the mood and emotions so every track has something different inside, but all the way there are lots of melodies. I use a lot Uh-e plugins (Diva, Hive, Zebra),I like a lot the sounds from them but I use also a lot Arturia Collection, Waves, SubBoomBass, Ni Maschine, Ni Massive and many others but the one I named are the most important for me.PZB: In 2014 I got to see you Open for Umek near your hometown Pula. I can’t remember the name of that place only that it was all outdoors I think it was Lighthouse Music Club(LMC). One of my most memorable nights. Croatia on the whole has become a top destination for music, especially house and techno. What are some of your favorite venues to play at in the region? Doesn’t have to be strictly Croatia, I know Slovenia, Italy and Serbia are also very close.Unique: I liked to play at Ambasada Gavioli and K4 in Slovenia, Kanegra Beach Festval, LMC, Kalypso in Croatia, Spens in Serbia.PZB: What would you say has been you’re most memorable moment to date as a producer/ DJ?Unique: One of the best moments were when i was closing the party with Umek at Kanegra Beach Festival and with Dubfire at Lighthouse MUsic Club, those 2 moments were just amazing.PZB: Just for fun If you had you pick of any musician/producer in history to make a track with who would it be? Unique: Tale Of Us
