In January of 2016 Jey released a remix of Nina Simone’s powerful rendition of the traditional spiritual song ‘Sinnerman’ that he produced alongside Jon Sine. The remix was part of a compilation for Universal Music Group called ‘Remix The Classics Vol. 2’ that invites electronic music producers to give their own takes on old soul songs. ‘Sinnerman (Sharam Jey & Jon Sine Remix)’ takes the iconic, haunting piano lick and combines it with a deep retro-futurist bassline to transform the original into a deadly dancefloor weapon. But that breakdown where they cut the bass out and introduce a reverberating synth chord over Simone's vocal hook is what really drew me into the track. It’s easy to get lost in. Or maybe I’m just a sucker for Nina Simone. Since its inception, Bunny Tiger, Jey’s label, has quickly risen into the upper echelons of dance music curators. They have released tracks from a wide range of compelling artists including Tapesh, Betoko, and Kolombo.
