Today we have one from Timo Maas and James Teej, a couple of our favorites over here at LAMP. This morning Maas and Teej released their latest ‘Cuba EP’, out now on Maas’s own imprint Rockets & Ponies. The new EP’s second track, ‘Mary Wanna’, is a down and dirty late groover peppered with grungy synth, and jazzy percussion. Maas and Teej do a remarkable job at creating a fully immersive soundscape with ‘Mary Wanna’. The spoken vocal samples, the echoes, the synthetic modulations… they all just work. Love it![soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/312729141" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]Timo Maas and James Teej have been working together for a few years now. Although their first collaborative EP, ‘Thingzz’, out via Damian Lazarus’s Rebellion, they had actually remixed tracks for each other’s albums a few years prior. Then just last year the pair received a Grammy nomination for their rework of the classic Paul McCartney and Wings tune ‘Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five’. Individually, Maas and Teej are both powerhouses in their own right. Teej is a member of the infamous Canadian crew My Favorite Robot and has released tracks for the likes of Get Physical Music, microCastle, and My Favorite Robot Records. Maas is a German DJ and producer who has been in the game for well over 30 years now. Maas has held down a residency at Circoloco in Ibiza for over 15 years.[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/229587261" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166" iframe="true" /]
