Track of the Day - Vanilla Ace & Dharkfunkh - What We Gonna Do?
Boogaloo Art Car & Music Festival is just around the corner and yours truly is really looking forward to heading out and getting the party warmed up over on the Charlie the Unicorn Art Car Friday Night. This will be the second time playing for Charlie and the second time getting to open up for an artist that I have had great admiration for over the years. First was Sacha Robotti and this Friday it will be none other than Vanilla Ace. From his releases with Toolroom, Bunny Tiger, Suara, Off and now this one on Glasgow Underground with Dharkfunkh. The list is actually way too long. Just know he has been a staple in go to house music for the last several years. "What We Gonna Do?" is another solid example of what we have come to expect from him over the years. A fast paced house groove kicks things off while string pads and some trumpets build up space and energy before the a classic vocal sample jumps into the mix getting us hyped for that massive bass line drop. All in all it is a pretty basic formula make a groove, add a bass line and some catchy vocal. On their own the parts of this song are pretty straightforward. Where these two set themselves apart is with their highly stylized and dynamic arrangement. There is so much energy in this track from start to finish and the flow from section to section is such that it just keeps getting better and better as the song progresses. If he wasn't going to be there Friday you could probably count on me putting this in my set, I am even more pumped to get to hopefully get to hear it from VAnilla Ace himself. The boss man for Glasgow Underground and former LAMP guest mix artist Kevin McKay is also on this EP with his take on the track so make sure to check that one out as well. Cheers and if you are in the LA area and looking to maybe see Vanilla Ace live grab tickets for this weekends Boogaloo Art Car & Music Festival. Hit the flyer down below for more info.
