Track of the Day: Third Son - Autodidact Pt. 1

LAMP has a big Friday night ahead of us this week down in San Diego as we welcome one of our absolute favorites Third Son for his first ever U.S. appearance. If you ask me to describe Third Son in 5 words or less I'd say: "He's Mozart with a Synthesizer". We have been following closely and supporting this incredible musicians career for the past few years and are delighted to have the opportunity to host him. Conveniently (but not surprisingly as he is an absolute machine when it comes to making music) last Friday he released his latest production with Einmusika Recordings. As we have not featured any of his music since his guest mix with us last September, now seems like as good a time as any. This latest release is actually a two part piece that plays on an overall theme reminiscent of his own Polymath label. Focusing on our track of the day Autodidact pt.1 starts off with a steady locomotive groove that feels like a train steadily picking up speed with cymbals and rides giving the sensation of the engine letting of steam. Once everything is in full motion is where the journey really begins as Third son fill our ears with a cascading synth setting us up for the massive and guttural pads that move through every inch of your mind and body. Like one big fantastic journey the track gently builds and keeps us fascinated the entire way before reaching its climax and gently returning to the station. Part 2 takes on a different journey, like I said before the theme is the same but the vibe is completely different. It feels much more subdued and slower than Part 1 even though they are relatively the same BPM. A big part of that is the halving of his kick, letting the fx and percs come through to give it much more of an industrial vibe. Both are wonderful in their own right and I am over the moon excited to get to hear Third Son live and in person this Friday. If you are in San Diego or even close this is a must.
