Still excited after releasing our 100th weekly mix and getting ready for #101 tomorrow from North Carolina native Shuhandz, we are welcoming Mike Grant back to the blog today with this review of Robert James remix for Seff.You have to be a monster if someone like Jamie Jones is going to champion your work. Jones believed so strongly in Robert James that he used his debut EP, ‘Sleepy Moods’, for the second ever Hot Creations release. Since then James has been on fire. In 2011 Pete Tong named him as one of his “Ones To Watch”. He’s had releases on Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Saved Records, and Strictly Rhythm. James has also been featured on podcasts such as Rinse FM, NGE, Dirty Disco, and Hot Natured Intergalactic Radio Transmission. All in barely 5 years. And his star is still rising.A couple of weeks ago, Underground Audio released SEFF - ‘Warehouse (Robert James Remix)’. SEFF is also quickly establishing himself as a mover in groovy, booty-shaking tech house so it was exciting to hear his collaboration with fellow Englishman Robert James. This is a quintessential tech-house production that utilizes a heavy kick drum, clean snares, walking basslines, and that high hat on the offbeat that we all love. The spacy, echoing vocals are reminiscent of the UK Garage scene that obviously influenced both artists and offer a good source of depth without taking over. As the electro melody builds, the phasing klacks and ambient police siren crescendo in a futuristic e drop that does well in living up to the track’s name.
