Track of the Day: Phil Kieran - Bomb
Track of the Day: Phil Kieran - Bomb
Getting a pretty late start to the day. Those L'affaire and Ouija guys know how to throw a good party. Got something for you today though that should help get your weekend started in a major way. The latest release from Turbo Records and Phil Kieran is a phenomenal EP that kicks off with our Track of the Day today 'Bomb'. Fairly typical of Kieran's style 'Bomb' takes on this almost mechanical groove to it. The massive kick chugs away like a locomotive barreling down the tracks. It has a booming feel to it with a little bit of crunch on the front end that gives it a ton of character. A relatively simple track in terms of number of instruments but Kieran has a methodology to this arrangement that give them so much depth and variety in the way he utilizes each one to get the most out of it. It's minimal in a way but far from it because of the complexity he adds to each instrument in the mix. 'Bomb' is only one of 4 incredible new tracks on this release not including the Dub version of 'Bomb' as well. Its out today so go grab it if you dig it.This track right here is one of my all time favorites along with Skyhook 2 and 3. Originally released end of 2006 early 2007 it was my first exposure to Phil Kieran. I still have the original vinyl release of this somewhere in my collection. Kieran is one of my all time greatest techno producers. Not for the casual listener but hands down some of the best produced techno I have been listening to for the past 10 years. He has a very mechanical industrial sound to many of his tracks but is quite capable of switching things up from time to time. At the heart of his music though is deep found knowledge of the techno genre and desire to continue to increase that knowledge. Never being afraid to step out of his comfort zone and break conventional barriers when it comes to his productions. He has played across the globe and worked with countless other artists like Green Velvet, and was hand picked by Martin Gore to remix Depeche Mode's 'Sweetest Perfection'. Huge to say the least. One thing I really love and appreciate of Kieran is his passion to continue to break out the mold constantly striving to learn new things and make solid tunes you can dance to till the sun comes. There is a ton of music from him that you can dive into on his Soundcloud which contains the majority of his latest work and so much more that is out there. Do a quick youtube search and you will find a bunch of his older stuff as well. Happy Digging!I love the Matador remix of 'Computer Games' as well.Enjoy your weekend everyone if you have yet to listen to this weeks guest mix from GAL pop it in your ears and get pumped for a great weekend.
