Track of the Day: Nick Höppner - Stay

With label boss/head honcho Josh Brooks taking a much deserved five in an island paradise I got the call to put together a quick Friday edition of Mondays With Mikey. This gives me the opportunity to discuss an interesting project I came across the other day. Cin Cin is a series of split 12’s to be released and curated by Fort Romeau and Ali Tillett. The first installment was released in December and features two tracks each from Fort Romeau and Nick Höppner. Höppner’s ‘Stay’ is a fun, weird little track that truly speaks to the broad range of his taste in music. 'Stay' employs airy synths, staccato vocal samples, and tight percussion over a barely noticeable arrangement of robotic beeps and whirs. It all comes together beautifully to form something quite unique. In addition to holding down a residency at Berghain/Panorama Bar, Höppner played an integral part in the operations and creative direction of Ostgut Ton since its inception in 2005 as the label’s manager. Höppner used that role to push the boundaries of techno and house music until 2012 when he resigned as the label’s manager. Since then he has continued his relationship with Ostgut Ton in more of a hands-off approach as one of the label’s artists. Outside of his work with Ostgut Ton Höppner has produced tracks and remixes for labels such as Liebe Detail, Cityfox, and Ghostly Int.
