Track of the Day: Marvin & Guy - Dancenergy
We're kicking off this week with a host of delightful tracks for your ear drums. Our good pals Graff sent us a copy of their latest mix as part of their ongoing 100 Minutes mix series, and it's safe to say we were enamored with it from the get go. We're really excited to dig through their tracklist and pick out some of our favorite tunes, and to kick it off we've got some 'Dancenergy' coming your way from Italian duo Marvin & Guy.
Marvin & Guy - Dancenergy
A high energy, rising bass line kicks this track off and shortly after it's accompanied by a host of percussive elements. A soft round kick provides the depth in the low frequencies while a host of shakers, claps and blips provide some more complex elements. A simple looping string progression begins to join the accompaniment adding further energy to the uptempo rhythm while layers of snares begin to surface adding further character to the percussive ensemble. The song stretches for a healthy 7 minutes and change but all the while elements and layers are being pushed and pulled into the arrangement allowing for continuous variety and avoiding unnecessary repetition. Nearly halfway through the track we are given respite with a wonderfully executed breakdown that lets a bright synth line breathe over top of a panning set of shakers. 'Dancenergy' is appropriately titled and part of an exciting EP release that came out via Los Angeles based Young Adults label (who have awesome curated blog btw: http://youngadults.us/).Check out the full EP here:The section below is pulled from their Elastic Aritists bio (sorry I'm a little under the weather today and didn't have time to write a background bit of my own):"The project Marvin & Guy (M&G) was born in 2011 from the children of two different musical generations with a shared knowledge of how to make people dance to underground sounds. The duo’s foray into this journey began with an EP on the Japanese label Let’s Get Lost. Side A “Town” saw such positive response upon release that the label immediately released two more of their recordings. These were followed with a remix of Eddie C’s track “La Palette” for Endless Flight, commissioned by Toshiya Kawasaki of Mule Records after noticing the attention surrounding “Town.” After a handful of other EPs and singles, including for Jacques Renault’s label On The Prowl, Marvin & Guy started their own imprint in 2013. M&G Records launched with “UWIH,” a hypnotic edit of Black Sabbath, and “Makin’ Love,” a sleazy disco banger. After touring extensively throughout Europe, Marvin & Guy returned to releasing on outside labels, first with Dance Abilities for Los Angeles’ Young Adults in 2015. The release was acclaimed by the music community, with the blog Discobelle calling “slab of black gold” an impeccable “10 minute romp of uptempo, minimalistic psychedelia.” It’s true, their latest release was a departure from the disco sound the duo had become known for, attracting new fans from a broader “Indie Dance” community. This included John Talbot, who asked Marvin & Guy to release on Hivern Discs. The EP Egoista will be out on June 8 2015. Today, these two k-fighters continue to grind as they expand their musical palette with the mission of bringing rhythmic body movement across the globe."Dive into a host of recorded sets, mixes and other releases from this talented duo below:Enjoy,MR PUZL
