Track of the Day feat. Wood Holly and Detroit Swindle
I somehow managed to survive my birthday (shout out to everyone who came through!), and also got to catch one of chillest shows this summer at V Lounge. It was hosted by the righteous dudes from Solé Bicycles and opened with our good pals Graff (Happy belated B-day to Latane!) and followed with some tight sets by Karl Kling, RUFUS DU SOL, and Mayer Hawthorne. This week kicks off with a track from local LA bass maker Wood Holly and great tune off of a Freerange Records release by Detroit Swindle.
Studio (Wood Holly Bootleg) - Schoolboy Q
Schoolboy Q in his own right has a great production team behind him when it comes to making solid beats, so when I saw this popup in my SC stream I was obviously intrigued. Wood Holly has done some damage and already made a great name for himself starting when he dropped his debut EP back in 2012. DJs from prominent labels like Dirtybird, Main Course and Bromance have had nothing but great things to say about his work since then. The intro to this bootleg opens really well with a nice, punchy bass line carrying into the opening vocals of the song and then dropping into an easy going break beat. Simplicity is key here, the remix doesn't try to be fancy and delivers a healthy dose of low-end goodness to your eardrums. If you're curious to know more about Wood Holly's work, here's a healthy platter of Free Downloads for your crates:
Under The Spell - Detroit Swindle
I remember being really into "Woman" and "Unfinished Business" when this EP came out at the end of last year and oddly enough I was only recently drawn back to "Under The Spell" when I sifting through some older tracks for this week's mix. Detroit Swindle never disappoint and it's always a blast mixing in and out of their tunes. I can't get enough of the jazz-like synth that bounces it's way through the track, and as the song's title suggest it's effects are binding.I can't wait to share more tracks with you this week, and I made sure to cram a bunch in this time around so be prepared for some triple threat #trackoftheday posts!Enjoy,MR PUZL
