Track of the Day: Darren Emerson - Daschine (Acid Tool)
Can you tell I am on an Acid kick lately? Darren Emerson dropped this on his latest EP from Detone a two track album that also contains the original version of the track. I really enjoyed the original which is what drew me to the Acid tool. My love of Acid instantly won me over on this version. There is no lead in here either. Emerson cuts straight to the chase with a big booming four on the floor kick that has a nice subtle bit of distortion and the acid line slightly muted taking us off to the races. Then bit by bit he starts to add shakers and other percussive elements really progressing the track and establishing a really classic sounding groove. All the while the acid synth line is doing work in the back ground traveling along taking on different tones in almost an ebb and flow sort of way coming in stronger and fading away, taking on sharper tones and then slightly more muted giving it loads of character. You can check out the original below to give you some reference to where the Acid Tool version comes from.I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with Darren Emerson by name but you are almost certainly familiar with some of his music. Once a member of the legendary Underworld and an integral part of their "dubnobasswithmyheadman" album and 'Born Slippy' made popular in the movie Trainspotting. Happy to say I got to see him perform with the band once in '99 before the split. Also happy to see that both Emerson and Underworld have continued to have success till this day. Basically Darren Emerson is a legend. Having remixed countless acts, been owner of multiple successful and highly influential record labels including his newest label Detone launched back in 2010. He relentlessly travels the globe on a non stop DJ schedule sharing his finely crafted sounds and his love for the music everywhere he goes. Check him out and get to know him better if you are unfamiliar. Some real music genius going on here.
